"You Stay I Go" is a song about being in a place where you don't belong and realising you have to leave, even though it's incredibly hard. It was a year ago on the 15th July that I moved back home to Lincoln after closing the door on a life and career that wasn't right for me. It was one of the hardest things I'd ever done but it was ultimately the right decision. I've put so much into this new song and I hope that anyone who's found themselves in a similar position will feel the same amount of catharsis listening to it as I have writing and releasing it.
"You Stay I Go" is partly inspired by Ishi, the last member of the Yahi tribe who died in 1916. I felt a powerful connection between his situation and mine at the time.

This track needed to be released, I started this track when I entered a very important part of my life and releasing this is another milestone for what is yet to come. For instance, I started this back in 2022 when I wasn't even a year into producing and it is being released in the second half of 2025.

There are those who no longer like me as a person, and I'm fine with that, not everyone is meant to walk my path, not everyone is meant to understand. That doesn't mean I hate anyone, it means my life is due for a change.

A passion can only be fulfilled through determination.

Fifteen years ago I was collaborating with others online to make some music that I think was pretty innovative, maybe even ahead of its time; perhaps for a niche more than the mainstream but I was happy with where it was going.

Then, complex chronic disease took hold of my life and forced some tough choices about how to spend my energy, and had to set that creative dream aside for the most part, dabbling in it out of love here and there but not having the wherewithal to follow through.

But that changed again in 2024, when my illness progressed further, and wrecked my ability to do my day job, and now with time on my hands I find the creative sparks are flying again and that returning to music is doing me good. So some of what I’m showing here is a dusting off of old stuff from that earlier era, and some of it is completely live and improvised medleys with original words, off the cuff rambling and scat, or mix-ins with lyrics from other existing lyrics or poems on top of improvised musical arrangements. Listen in; you’ll find some of it is very raw but within it, you just might find glimpses of the sublime. (Not to brag. But you might. And you might also hate it to its core; I’m OK with that and I’ll still keep being me!)
