Bio:
Austin native Jesse Brede has been setting dance floors afire with his original take on multi-genre bass-music since 1998, but his industry savvy doesn’t stop there. The self-taught entrepreneur has tried his hand and succeeded at nearly every endeavor in the business. From founding his own record label and talent agency to the practical application of video and sound technologies, Brede has become a staple in the bass community. 

Brede ventured into a new territory of music production in 2009, where he came to fully embody the definition of multi-genre bass music. Brede’s composition and DJ sets continuously defy the limits of any one particular category. An avid storyteller behind the decks, he has become notorious for affecting the emotions of listeners while teasing with expectation. Brede has shared the stage with a group of artists as diverse as his sound, such as Deadmau5, The Glitch Mob, Skrillex, Kaskade and Bonobo at highly-esteemed events. He has also established quite the reputation with appearances at Euphoria Camping and Music Festival, Great North Festival, Insomniac’s Nocturnal Festival and Art Outside. 

Brede founded Gravitas Recordings in 2011, a record label and creative collective that serves as a platform for artists to showcase their work. The label’s mantra is “Doing Good with Good Music”, making it more than just a music platform, but also an outlet to fulfill philanthropic initiatives. In true Brede fashion, the brand refuses to be compromised by genre limitations and continues to raise money for various charitable causes through different compilations. Gravitas has worked with over 300 artists to release over 110 EP, albums, and compilations. I've been collecting records from record shops in the UK London and elsewhere and Discogs, I have a huge record collection tape packs, and CDs. I love music, collecting tracks, and DJing. Influences include all garage crews from the 90s onwards and grime crews and dubstep crews from 2001 onwards sidewinder tape packs and pirate radio. I’ve complained in the past about modern music needing a jolt of innovation without coming off as pretentious. Phidippus seems to epitomize the desire to make great music while refusing to keep to one specific formula, making his trajectory as an artist fascinating to watch. I find Phidippus to be an immensely underappreciated musician who just needs one big hit to make his name reverberate throughout the densely packed world of electronica, and I hope that that day comes sooner rather than later.

1974: Eric Salazar, aka Phidippus, is conceived then born shortly after.
1984: Plays first instrument, the autoharp.
1985: Joins a break dancing troop.
1986: Dad buys Amiga 1000. 'Sampled' music discovered.
1990: Gets hands on an Ensoniq EPS-16+ sampling workstation and proceeds to make bad music.
1998: CD EP, "Voluptuous", released. After receiving a demo copy, the staff of Peter Gabriel's record label enjoy the CD as they write memos.
1999: Produces remixes for New Vision Recordings and other labels in the UK.
2000: Mercedes, Smirnoff and other companies license Eric's music to promote their products.
2001: Launches New Vision America, a record label. After three singles are released, the label dies a quiet death.
2005: Scores the best selling game, "Belle's Beauty Boutique". What? Its cute.
2008: Releases full length CD, "ES: When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007". The CD goes on to receive airplay in major markets and commendations from the press, including such publications as Knowledge and XLR8R.
2011: Remixes artists such as The B-52s, Summer Channel and Sasha.
2013: Starts producing under the name Phidippus and begins work on the '170' project.
2019: 'When I was Emptyhead 1997-2007' is re-released under the Phidippus moniker and is made available in all major online music outlets.
2019: The Phidippus album '170.1' is released in all major online music outlets.
2020: The album '170.2' is released online
2021: '170.3' and '170.4' albums are released online
2022: http://www.soundcloud.com/phidippus reaches the 400,000 mark in total plays and 11,000 followers
2022: An EP concocted by Phidippus and producer Surreal8Zero is signed to Full Send DnB
2022: The hip hop single 'Starfish featuring Cap'n Fresh' achieves airplay in 30 states.
