Den Gebirgling findet man üblicherweise im Hochgebirge ab einer Höhe von ca. 2500 Metern. Ein höchst seltener Pilz, der extrem schwierig ist zu finden, denn schon in den frühen Morgenstunden wird er von den Tieren, die in seinen Gebieten hausen, liebend gerne verspeist. Am besten zeltet man im Hochgebirge und begibt sich schon vor dem Sonnenaufgang auf die Suche.

Seine Charakteristiken hängen vor allem davon ab, in welchen Gebirgszügen, auf welcher Höhe, in welcher Jahreszeit und in welchem Gebiet er sich befindet. So gibt es eine unerforscht hohe Anzahl an verschiedenen Arten des Gebirglings. Heute liegt diese Anzahl auf sehr grob geschätzten 420 verschiedene Arten. 
Obwohl die Familie der Gebirglinge riesengroß ist, lässt sich dieser Pilz an einem gemeinsamen und sehr zauberhaften Merkmal ganz einfach bestimmen:
Egal um welche Art es sich handelt, jedes Exemplar scheint einzigartige musikalische Klänge von sich zu geben, die in seiner unmittelbaren Nähe zu hören sind. 
Die musikalischen Töne eines Gebirglings können einen verführen und in magische Welten bringen, die mit der bekannten Welt des Menschen nichts zu tun haben...
