It’s been 5 years since I’ve posted a mix and I’m excited to get back into it!

This one is inspired by recent events around my city and I wanted to give a daytime into evening vibe that goes through different styles and moods. 
Mainly house, tech house, and techno with some splashes of disco.

Track 14: "Nickster wants to rewind"


This is the third and final mashup on this project to use one of my friends' songs. That friend is Nickster, and that song is "Diglo", his tribute to Daft Punk from 2021. I had the idea of mashing up "Rewind featuring bladee" with Daft Punk's original "Digital Love" last year, but I thought it would be even more fun to mash it up with a song that is essentially just Nickster re-flipping the sample used in "Digital Love", seeing as the remix of "Rewind" is a "flip" of the original.

Track 23: "S&M Girls"

There have been multiple mashups of the original "Mean girls" with Rihanna's "S&M" already, but I noticed that nobody seems to have done a mashup of "S&M" with the "Mean girls" remix with Julian Casablancas. I decided to take matters into my own hands, and to make the mashup even more special, I used the remix of "S&M" featuring Britney Spears (forgetting that I had already done a Britney Spears mashup on this project with "Rewind Me", whoops!). Though the two songs are about completely different things lyrically, the music is perfectly complimentary--I loved giving "S&M" a bit more of an indie rock feel and I loved giving the "Mean girls" remix more of a Eurodance feel.

Track 15: "So I Never Said Goodbye"

"So I" is Charli XCX's tribute to the late legend SOPHIE. I thought it would be wrong to mash up this song with any artist other than SOPHIE, and this idea had somehow never been done before (at least, not that I know of). "So I Never Said Goodbye" is a truly beautiful mashup title. I initially made a version of this mashup last year, and back then, I thought having the mix transition from one version of the mashup to another only served to make the track more beautiful. As you can tell when listening to it, I felt the same way when remaking the mashup, and I hope you all agree.

Track 28: "Goodbye February"

For the final mashup off of this project, I wanted to do a "Charli XCX squared" mashup, as I had attempted to make a mashup of "Hello goodbye" and "February 2017" last year. Both songs have similar themes of regret, so they fit together lyrically, as well as musically. "Hello goodbye" still does not have a remix as of the time I am writing this, but I personally wouldn't mind a feature from Clairo and/or Yaeji on it.

Track 18: "I Guess the Apple Could Turn Yellow or Blue"

When I do mashups, I always try to mix together songs that haven't been mixed together before. That's still what I did here, but ironically, this idea stemmed because of a mashup that I saw by Rainy on YouTube of PinkPantheress's "Blue" with Charli XCX's "360" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKuyVY1uijI&list=RDfKuyVY1uijI&start_radio=1). I liked it, but I thought "Apple" would fit "Blue" a lot better, and this mashup proves that. I hope y'all agree.

Track 24: "I Sing About It All the Time"

Four Tet is one of the greatest electronic producers of the modern era, and his song "Sing" is a perfect match for Charli XCX's "I think about it all the time". The original "I think about it all the time", the remix of that song featuring Bon Iver,  and Four Tet's "Sing" all share the exact same key and bpm (A Minor, 122 bpm), but the lyrics of "I think about it all the time"--about Charli XCX wondering whether or not she should have a child--also fit perfectly due "Sing" having what sounds like a toy xylophone (an instrument that is associated with "lullabies") at parts.

Track 19: "Is the Apple Someone Else?"

Unpopular opinion: The remix of "Apple" featuring the Japanese House is better than the original song by a significant margin. This is a mashup I initially made not long after the brat remix album came out, and the two songs ironically have similar themes (even if one song is about generational trauma and the other about infidelity in a romantic relationship). And of course, both songs have a similar '80s pop feel.Plus, Charli XCX x The Weeknd is just a dream collaboration of mine in general, this mashup proves that their styles could compliment each other very well.
