This week, we’re delighted to welcome another guest DJ to the Sprift Soundcast - Jack Holman of AgentExtra…a very warm welcome to you Jack, great to have you on board! 🎧 🔉 📻

Jack tells us that music plays a huge role in his life, with his interest initially forged when he was a teenager and his Mum, a huge music fan herself, took him to his first gig (the awesome Massive Attack, no less!) when he was 13.  As well as listening to the charts and whatever was playing at home, Jack was a huge gamer, and in his teens used to play a certain video game on his PC that allowed him to experiment with mixing, along with another (in)famous game that involved car chases and the ability to change radio stations, replete with sound-effects, as he tried to evade capture by the authorities. 

In his twenties, Jack was a regular festival-goer but it wasn’t until he saw Annie Mac play a set at Bestival in 2014 that he was inspired to learn to mix. After a year or so of learning at home, Jack started to explore the possibilities of playing live in his local bars in London.  As it happened, one of his emails asking venues if they were looking for DJs landed with the manager of an establishment in Bermondsey on the very evening that a live band were playing who weren’t going down too well with the crowd.  The manager contacted Jack as soon as he opened the email and asked him if he could get to the bar with his kit and play that evening to save the situation…and the rest, as they say, is history. 

Since then, alongside successfully founding Agent Extra in 2016, over the last few years Jack has played regularly in London where he held a number of residencies and also internationally, with gigs in Portugal (where he once played a 12-hour set at a festival street party) and even as far away as Georgia. Jack plays a wide range of genres, including House, Jazz, Hip Hop and World Beats, and loves to play tracks that people either haven’t heard before or to create unexpected mash-ups of favourite tunes to give them an unusual twist. 

Jack’s first session for us takes inspiration from one of his (still favourite) games, even down to the sound effects…We won’t say anymore because we don’t want to spoil the surprise but suffice to say, this mix has it all going on with some big tunes you’re bound to know and love but played in a way you may not have heard them before!  Jack advises that this is best listened to between viewings and vals in the car with an imaginary police helicopter tailing you…if you know, you know!
