Baxie talks to drummer Hugo Burnham from the Gang of Four! The Gang of Four were one of the most important bands to emerge from the post-punk era in the late 70's and early 80's. Their 1979 debut album "Entertainment!" is still seen as one of the most important albums ever made. That album along with their 1981 follow-up "Solid Gold" are featured in a beautiful new box set called "Gang of Four 77-81". Since leaving the band in 1983, Hugo Burnham has forged a career both in the record industry as well as in academics--where he is now a Professor at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. Baxie welcomes back Professor Hugo Burnham from Gang of Four! On April 18th Gang of Four will kick off their final tour of the United States beginning in Westport, CT on April 18th, two days later they'll appear at the Chrystal Ballroom in Boston. Their brilliant 1979 album “Entertainment!” is about to celebrate its 45th anniversary. And Gang of Four will be performing it in its entirety. Since initially leaving the band in 1984 Hugo has gone on to playing sessions with PiL, ABC, and several others. He also served as the manager for Shriekback and Julian Cope. He’s also served as an A&R Representative for Island Records as well. More recently he’s enjoyed a successful academic career—having served as the Dean of Students at the New England Institute of Art in Boston. He’s also served as a professor at Emerson and is currently managing the internship program at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass! A truly fascinating guy! Still love to visit record stores & dig through bins of used records when i go on business trips. Recorded 100's of mixed tapes for classmates/friends and hours & hours in front of the turntables.
