It has been a long road; filled with pretty amazing memories!  Gregory Eaton is one of Lansing's best known sons for many reasons, but in part because his family has been in that town since 1880!  His parents taught him many valuable things and giving back was all part of the learning!  

If you are from Lansing, you might have stopped at his restaurant Gregory's Soul Food, where history meets some really good cooking! But his start was playing high school football, basketball and track at Sexton High School, but soon after he finished school he started his first business, Greg's Janitorial Service.  His life has been filled with great success including being a lobbyist and served for 37 years as executive assistant and legislative counsel for the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association. In 1989, Eaton started Metro Cars with his partner, Cullen Meathe.  They began with 30 brand new Cadillacs and trained their employees at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn.

He's received national notoriety as one of only three people who have been at every NFL Super Bowl, but his ticket to fame is his winning personality and the incredible generosity for giving to others.  This is a fun interview with a great legend who gave Vic Verchereau and the listeners some of his time to serve up this edition of the Leadership Lowdown! Warren shares his thoughts on Chevrolet's chances of bringing home additional driver and owner championships this weekend, what his title as Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition entails and his humble beginnings in the sport.

Dr. Warren, who received his PhD from N.C. State in the late 1990s, explains how he helped further advance science and technology into the motorsports landscape, why he had to learn how to be a racer (despite his accent), helping create the first unofficial "war room" and how it helped immensely during COVID as well as the planning and building of the GM Technical Center in Charlotte and more.

Davey also previews the Truck, Xfinity and Cup Series Championship 4 from Phoenix Raceway, the weekend that was at Martinsville Speedway, including RCR's nightmare finish (and aftermath) on Saturday and Ryan Blaney's statement win on Sunday. According to many sources, Apollo 11, which landed on the Moon in July 1969, drew the attention of the entire world. But subsequent missions to the Moon and other ambitions efforts by NASA and its partner agencies drew far less attention. How quickly the sense of awe and wonder wanes. We take computers for granted; our mobile phones are orders of magnitude more powerful than anything that got Apollo to the Moon—and trust me on this, the Apollo on-board computers were wondrous devices for the time, automatically controlling pitch and yaw and roll and the firing of thrusters and retrorockets at precise times. Flying around the world has become mundane, more a chore than an incredible opportunity. We even have electric cars on the road. That’s a different scale of wonder, but you know what I mean. People pay no attention to space launches, yet they’re impressed by cars that run on batteries and can go 250 miles without recharging.

But here’s the thing. It ain’t all that impressive. Sorry, Elon. Electric cars are a good idea, and they’re good for the environment—mostly—but they’re not a new idea. In fact, the first truly electric vehicle—a car—was built in 1965. And it wasn’t designed for smooth, modern highways, with conveniently spaced charging stations along the way. No, it was designed to be driven on the Moon. And it did. In fact, three of them made the trip.

Let me tell you the story, with a little help from NASA.
