Dans le discours public, on entend surtout que les personnes âgées (traitées en bloc) constituent « un problème », pour lequel les institutions cherchent des solutions ; pourtant nous sommes tous les vieilles et les vieux de quelqu’un, et chaque jour nous le sommes un peu plus. Pourquoi ne pas inverser le regard ? On pourrait aussi dire que les personnes (plus) âgées ont chacune leur trajectoire unique, et cependant liée à celle des autres ; qu’elles continuent à se développer, à apprendre, à s’engager, à s’indigner et à apprécier les choses de la vie ; que peut-être, parce qu’elles ont vécu plus longtemps, elles peuvent nous aider à lire ce qui nous entoure ; que par conséquent, les personnes âgées devraient, comme tout le monde, être considérées comme des individus, contribuant activement à la construction de la société dans laquelle nous vivons.
