It's been two years since I posted my last cover song on my YouTube channel. Here's an acoustic cover of 'Summertime' by George Gershwin.

That's right, we have one of our favorite guests, Sebastian Figueroa (linktr.ee/Shining_Fields), back to really dive into the whole wild world of Florenz Ziegfeld.

It's a life that connects famous body builders, vaudeville superstars and pet elephants. It involves insane volumes of gambling, perfidy and adultery. There will be talk of lions, tigers and W C Fields. All of that, and a heavy sprinkling of Eddie Cantor.

You have to listen to believe where this conversation goes, and frankly, once you've listened, you still won't believe it.

Episode 14.1: Ziegfeld Follies (with Sebastian Figueroa)

Welcome back as we continue our overly in depth look at the super-production to end all super-productions, 1946's Ziegfeld Follies, with our special guest, Sebastian Figueroa (find all of his stuff here: linktr.ee/Shining_Fields). This film has a lot of firsts and a lot of onlys. We have our first sighting of Fred Astaire at the unit, and his first dance with Cyd Charisse, more or less. We have multiple people directing segments who would never direct again.

More than all that, however, we have spectacle, gorgeous, mind numbing spectacle until your brains leak out your ears. Colors, girls, comedy, dancing and the return of the Irish sweepstakes. What more could you ask for?

"Embraceable You" is a jazz standard song with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song was written in 1928 for an unpublished operetta named East Is West. It was published in 1930 and included in that year's Broadway musical Girl Crazy, performed by Ginger Rogers in a song and dance routine choreographed by Fred Astaire. Billie Holiday's 1944 recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2005.

Maurice Ravel (1875–1937)
Maurice Ravel was a French composer, pianist, and conductor, celebrated as one of the most prominent and innovative figures of the early 20th century. Born on March 7, 1875, in Ciboure, France, Ravel’s music is known for its exquisite craftsmanship, vivid orchestration, and seamless blend of classical tradition with modernist innovation.
