Barranquilla es una ciudad que ha vivido el conflicto armado en Colombia como una especie de observador silencioso. No pasa nada directamente y sin embargo pasa todo. 

Este podcast* recoge las voces de tres protagonistas del Monumento por la dignidad y la memoria de la Red Sur Barranquilla que ha intentado contribuir con la memoria histórica local como legado de una cultura de paz rota.

The project combines three different characters of musicians who find each other on the level of improvisation, experiment and bring each other to reason. Each piece should create a new sound space and tell a story. The components consist of sounds from rare instruments (including glass harp, waterphone, array Mbira), electronically processed recordings of the sounds and experimental, multi-layered singing. The musicians send each other tracks, develop them further and thus work on a common improvised soundscape. Juan Pablo Villa contributes contemporary and unconventional singing techniques. Wolfgang Eckert, for example, takes the sounds of Izabella's glass harp and uses them to prepare groovy or spatial carpets of sound. Izabella Effenberg plays and records selected instruments from her large collection. A surreal world emerges like painting.

Music can connect and inspire people on different levels, build friendships and show people how important it is to cross borders, especially in the moment. The focus of the debate was on Germany, where the critical memory culture that was set in place in the 1960s has recently been eroded by more satirical approaches to the Nazi past that have their origin in the Anglo-American context and the comedies of figures such as Charlie Chaplin and Ernst Lubitsch. Timur Vermes’ bestselling novel Look Who’s Back (MacLehose 2013) that imagines Hitler returning to life in present-day Berlin is the latest example of this shift in German memory and what appears to be a collective desire for a normalized relationship to the country’s troubled past. The author will be in conversation with New York Times book critic and author Liesl Schillinger, as well as Gavriel D. Rosenfeld, Professor of History at Fairfield University and author of Hi Hitler: How the Nazi Past is Being Normalized in Contemporary Culture (2014). The panel will be moderated by Gil Roth, host of the podcast Virtual Memories.

O GAE - Grupo de Pesquisa em Arte e Ecologia é formado por professores e estudantes de Artes Visuais.
