Berlin-based Mathias Modica is many different things, but first and foremost he’s an old pal of Lodown as our ways crossed more than once since he co-founded Gomma in 2000. We hooked up once again in early June - not only to talk all that jazz - but to bridge the gap from Munich’s glorious past to his musical present in Berlin.

Dimitri From Paris is the French/Turkish disco don responsible for some of the biggest edits around. His recent compilation for Salsoul proves he is held in the highest regard by some of the originators of the genre. Together with DJ Rocca their Erodiscotheque series has been running intermittently since 2011 on Gomma Records. Gomma is a German mainstay created by Munk & Telonius.

The premiere we proudly have today is from the compilation 'Gomma Disco Jams Vol.1' and the track is entitled Ero Disco Theme, an ode to their Erodiscotheque series mentioned earlier. A 4 track EP of varying styles, this track is the most disco orientated one of the bunch.

It starts with a classic drum and bongo intro, building swiftly into zaps and a funky guitar lick. It doesn't take long for the bassline party to start, closely followed by the swelling synth chords. This is a full on disco workout, high energy, minimal breaks, vocoded whisperings and drum rolls aplenty. It also features a belting synth solo, can't help but picture this being played in the sweatiest of sweaty discos back in the day. If you want to play something that sounds familiar but new then this is for you!

Boom! Check out that cheeky chappy spacehopper fella on the front cover. Wanna know why he's so happy? It's because Munich label @gomma have put together a badass four track EP with the aim of "spotlighting a few essential tracks that preceded the new Disco wave", which if you've been clubbing recently you may have noticed has somewhat taken over the electronic music world.

We're very happy to be premiering WhoMadeWho's slow funk remix of 'Kick Out The Chairs', a 2003 collab between German producer and Gomma head Munk and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, who organised the first Gomma events in New York.

Few people bring a truly original sound to house music. At a relatively young age, Hamburgs Martin Stimming did just that, demonstrating a sophisticated yet accessible sound that is beyond his years.

Two years after hooking up with Solomuns Diynamic Music, his 2008 breakthrough hit Una Pena made the electronic world sit up and take notice, and before long acclaimed labels like Freerange, liebe*detail, Buzzin´ Fly, Green and Poker Flat were snapping up his work. 2009 saw him release his immaculate debut album Reflections to great acclaim, cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting new producers of his generation. 

His second album, Liquorice, eschews the normal kick-clap/snare template by and large to explore more interesting and progressive territories, but always with that trademark magpie-like sense of texture, emotion and discovery. 

His productions are filled with a multitude of his own unique, charismatic field recordings, and he never uses the same sample more than once. 

2010 saw him pick up an award for Best Newcomer at the Ibiza DJ Awards, following on from his live show (Stimming does not DJ) stunning the crowds at the islands legendary Pacha, and the finest danceries around the world Πfrom Berlins Panoramabar to Sao Paulo´s D-Edge, Brussels Fuse, London´s fabric and Paris Rex, and plenty more beyond. 

Remixes for the likes of Sascha Funke, Claude VonStroke, Deadmau5, Stephan Bodzin and Tom Novy to name but a few have further spread his influence amongst the discerning house and tech community, and cemented his reputation as one of the scene´s most exceptional producers.

Clearly, Martin Stimming is a precious talent indeed. But then again, not everyone loves liquorice...
