The setting for this ghost ballad is Blickling Hall, Norfolk, where Anne Boleyn was born in 1507 (probably) and which she is said to haunt every May 19 since her execution for alleged treason and adultery on that date in 1536.

'True Thomas' refers to Sir Thomas Wyatt the Tudor courtier whose forbidden love for Anne Boleyn ("hands off this deer, it belongs to the King") is described in his poem "Whoso List To Hunt."

The ghost is accompanied by recordings of Norfolk night birds and beasts, which listeners may be expert enough to identify. We would love to hear from any who manage to do so. (We can confirm that the set of suggestions sent in by a Mr and Mrs J. and K. D*vi*s of Norfolk, viz animals: crocodile, giraffe, lion, birds: vulture, pelican, raven, while featured in an over-celebration of underachievement assembly near you, are not precisely the answers we're looking for, though do try these elsewhere....)

The tune is 'Greensleeves' traditionally composed by Henry VIII in his thin Tudor Rose period.

The first tune we sing to is a medieval church scale melody in the Phrygian mode composed by Thomas Tallis, originally as a setting for Psalm 2, arr Peacock's Tale.

The second part with the voice over is a rhythm section of acoustic guitar, drums and bass over which chord changes you could sing Greensleeves.
The voice over is extracts from the writings of Meher Baba, a spiritual Master of of Persian ancestry born in Poona, India, a discourse he called "The New Humanity." 
We feel both parts of this track - the fear and foreboding for the planet and our species of "State of The Ark" and the sublime optimism of the Meher Baba discourse. As he puts it "Great forces of destruction ARE afoot and SEEM to be dominate at the moment." (our emphasis).
The image is Hokusai's "In the Well of the Great Wave of Kanagawa" which seems to illustrate both the impending doom and the ultimate faith in humanity to overcome it.

Edith Cavell, a Swardeston nurse based in Brussels, was shot as an alleged spy on 12 October 1915. Her final statement (see chorus) seems an odd thing for a partisan 'spy' to say. Her hospital - in Brussels, German occupied territory - tended soldiers of all nations and from both sides of the conflict. She risked her life to help recovered British and French soldiers to escape. This is our remembrance of her, set to an old English folk tune, as recorded for our double album Done Different, which celebrates the history and people of Norfolk and Greater Icenia. This is the version we will be playing at the Remembrance Service at Fring All Saints(Norfolk) along with another song for Fight Sergeant Pilot Lancelot Percival Williamson and two poems by Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfrid Owen. Edith Cavell died 70 years to the day after Elizabeth Fry, the prison reformer, whose song precedes hers on the album. The Last Post sampled at the end is as played at Carrow Road before the game on 5 November 2023.
