On the evening of November 20th, 2025, under the warm lights and open hearts at Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center, something sacred happened. Collected Purpose, alongside a powerful community of artists, friends & family, gathered to remember, to reflect, and to rise in tribute to our beloved brother, Viet Mai. As a founding voice of Collected Purpose, he helped shape a movement rooted in truth-telling, empowerment, and love. His legacy stretches across classrooms, community centers, numerous stages, and open mics. Through his words and actions, Viet lived as an advocate, an educator, a connector, and a light.

One of Viet’s wishes was for Collected Purpose to reunite for an Elevated Reunion show. This night became that wish fulfilled. Throughout this tribute, you’ll hear poems, memories, and soul-filled offerings that echo Viet’s spirit, his compassion, his sharp mind, his deep love for community, his reverence for sistas, and his unique relationship with time and legacy. Each story, each verse, is a brushstroke in the mural of his life, bold, thoughtful, and unforgettable.

Poets came in from all over Southern California and even as far as New York. This recording is not just a reflection of loss, it is a celebration of life. It’s a reminder of the power of art to heal, to unify, and to carry forward the voices of those who poured so much into the world. Viet Mai gave us countless gifts. Tonight, we give back in the only way that feels right: with rhythm, with purpose, and with love. Thanks for sharing in this celebration. Enjoy the artistry, enjoy the love and the laughs.

This Time of Year

I wrote this song three years ago when I was starting my career, and it somehow became the first track I truly fell in love with. It’s this tragic story about a woman grieving her fiancé through all the small things he left behind: perfume on his clothes, photos, an empty bottle… For the first time, love feels like torture when you know you’ll never see your other half again. I thought I’d fallen out of love with the song, but apparently not, because I came back to it this year like someone going back to a toxic ex “just to see,” and decided to make it my third single.

Grew up on country and pop music. I love singing and songwriting,. I've met and talked with a few of the greats like Dolly and Johnny Cash - something I will treasure always. If I can, in my lifetime, be half as good as they, then I won't have failed. I love all genres of music; especially music and lyrics that grab the heart. I enjoy writing with other songwriters. I love it when a song takes on its own life and evolves into something greater than was intended. My goal is not to be famous, but to share my songs and sing my heart out for those who listen. Wow!
