One of my favourite things about living in Canada is the wonderful multicultural possibilities that it offers to all of us.  That, and the fact that we still spell "favourite" with a "u" in the middle (the proper way).  This dazzling array of cultures lets us walk through the neighbourhoods, eat at the tables of wonderful new tastes, sit and watch the dances and daily interactions, and listen to the music of the world!  As a result, we have a glorious flowering of bands in Canada who embrace a variety of global roots - sometimes mixing and supporting and embracing all traditions.  Today on Routes & Branches & Beyond I'll play a half a dozen groups in the global roots genre who have released new material this year.

I'll have Quebecois gypsy jazz, Scotland meets Jamaica in Canada, Northern Ontario Franco-Abenaki roots, anarchic guerilla Balkan folk brass, fluid traditional trumpet, and Slavic dub-punk missionaries.  From bands such as Christine Tassan et les Imposteurs, Jason Wilson & Ashara, Mimi O'Bonsawin, Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Merrie Klazek, and Dumai Dunai.  Heat up a Samosa and join me.
