When I test it with app in the foreground, BLE peripheral connected, then put in the background. The gyroscope data update soon ceases. When I walk out of BLE range, the gyroscope data starts again, then soon stopped. I walked in within BLE peripheral range, the gyroscope data is showing again. (I am walking with iPhone hooked to laptop with XCode running and seeing it directly from the logs).


Smartphones doubling up as laboratory equipment are increasingly in demand for convenience and portability. VibraTilt is a free smartphone app with a simple interface on both the iOS and Android operating systems that functions as both an accelerometer and a gyroscope. Leveraging on in-built sensors, the portable accelerometer bubble level can be used in labs to determine the tilt of surfaces. The gyroscope measures the rotation in three-directions-axes and their magnitude of change for calibrating equipment, measuring vibrations, stability of laboratory equipment, and measuring tremors clinically. For setting thresholds and visualization, a graph showing the change in the x, y and z values is incorporated in the Android version. Together with the customizable feature to record the number of shakes within a certain time frame, VibraTilt does more than unlock the smartphone to displace two equipment in the laboratory, but can be used in a variety of purposes.


In the experimental laboratory, VibraTilt can be used to measure the stability and angle of surfaces for calibrating equipment and as a portable gyroscope for sensitive experiments. The key feature of measuring movement in a set time limit and magnitude allows the accelerometer function to do more than standardize shaking experiments, but also for neurological research involving tremors and even gait (LeMoyne et al. 2010). Outside the experimental laboratory, VibraTilt can be used for exercise and leisure purposes (pedometer, measuring mobile phone vibrations, or for determining if a piece of table/chair is tilted, etc).


VibraTilt functions as both a gyroscope and an accelerometer leveraging on the portability and convenience of smartphones/tablets. With added functions to calibrate, reset, and colour changes of the accelerometer together with the gyroscope measurement and graph function, much can be done with VibraTilt. In fact, VibraTilt marks the first such apps that is generic enough for both scientific research use, as well as for leisure.


KMN contributed to the manuscript, designed and made the app. PVN assisted in the graph and plotting aspect of the gyroscope. SKEG directed and conceived the idea of the app, as well as directed the writing of the application notes. All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript.

To start monitoring the gyroscope sensor, call the IGyroscope.Start method. .NET MAUI sends gyroscope data changes to your app by raising the IGyroscope.ReadingChanged event. The data provided by this event is measured in rad/s (radian per second). Use the IGyroscope.Stop method to stop monitoring the sensor. You can detect the monitoring state of the gyroscope with the IGyroscope.IsMonitoring property, which will be true if the gyroscope was started and is currently being monitored.

But the problem arises when I build the apk and then test it on my android device (Sony Xperia Z1). In that case, the gyroscope is enabled, but I can not get the readings from the gyroscope: the quaternion value of Input.gyro.attitude is always (0,0,0,0).


In my case I was using Unity Remote and I already had Input.gyro.enabled = true in place, but I was still getting gyroscope values equal to (0,0,0,0), so I did File > Build and Run and from that point on the gyroscope values got correctly updated.

Move device to the light or, on the contrary, go into a dark room.
Approximate typical values: room - 150 lux, office - 300 lux, sunny day - 10,000 lux and above.

Following the invention of mechanical gyroscopes by Leon Foucault in 1852, gyroscopes were not widely used until WWII, when they became essential for navigation and control systems within aircraft. This marked a significant technological leap that allowed pilots to fly accurately even during nighttime or poor weather conditions.


The first type is the Rotary (classical) gyroscope. It operates a high-speed rotation axis on principles of conservation of angular momentum, making it ideal for maintaining orientation and stability in

Finally, Optical Gyroscopes work with light waves rather than mechanical motion to detect changes in direction. Many refer to these as fiber optic gyroscope units due to the fiber optic element within the device, allowing maximum precision. This accuracy allows gyroscopes to play crucial roles in various fields. For instance, they give robotic systems the precision needed to operate efficiently. Gyroscopes guarantee smooth sailing from one place to another, no matter the circumstances.
