"Sitôt prononcé le mot « harem », surgissent des images de femmes lascives, cloîtrées dans la pénombre en attente du bon vouloir du prince. C’est aussi l’expression exemplaire du gouvernement de sultans réputés exercer leur pouvoir sous l’emprise de pulsions quasi pathologiques. Ces poncifs, que l’on pourrait croire éculés, entrent aujourd’hui encore en résonance avec la conception d’un monde islamique figé et politiquement inepte, fatalement voué au despotisme et à l’oppression des femmes.
Jocelyne Dakhlia entreprend dans cet ouvrage une archéologie de ces motifs à partir de l’histoire du Maroc, de la fin du Moyen Âge au XXe siècle. Il s’agit ici de mobiliser à nouveaux frais l’ensemble de la documentation disponible, tant picturale que textuelle, afin de procéder à une histoire fine du genre et du politique en Islam, de remettre en mouvement des logiques historiques là où l’historiographie se faisait plus sommairement culturaliste."

Jocelyne Dakhlia est historienne, directrice d’études à l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales. Spécialiste de l’histoire politique du Maghreb et plus largement de la Méditerranée, elle a notamment publié Lingua franca. Histoire d’une langue métisse en Méditerranée (Actes Sud, 2008), et co-dirigé Les musulmans dans l’histoire de l’Europe (Albin Michel, 2 vol., 2011-2013).

Barakat Salaam is a diversified indvidual with roots from the City of Brotherly to Central Virginia. He was once crowned the Unsigned King of Central Virginia (under a different stage name) with his unique style and aggressive flow. Barakat took a hiatus from the hip hop scene for 13 years to focus on his religion and spiritual self. After Receiving his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering he turned back to his roots of being a recording artist of the Hip Hop/Rap genre. 
 
Barakats new material is a reflection of his religous/spiritual life with some grit to it. He is very clever in his wordsmithing and catchy hooks that will leave the listener/fan knowing the song by the end of it. Sometimes his simple but powerful words will have the listener reflecting on his/her own life. Bunyanun Marsus, which means "A Solid Cemented Structure", does just that. 
 
WASWAS (Whispers), United Nations featuring Ishues, Die for This (Structure of Love), I Can't Breathe featuring Ahmad Zayir of Muji Productions, and After Hardship are some of his notable records that have been getting streamed on Soundcloud. Look out for projects and new material to be dropping in the future.
