HOPELANDIC {HBO-David Lynch's Final Project, 2025}

"The Alabama Solution" is an independent American documentary film about the prison system in Alabama from the perspective of incarcerated inmates, from footage they recorded with contraband phones. The documentary, directed by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman, premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. Jarecki and Kaufman were kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about their work and experience on making the film, which you can listen to below. What do you get when you take a creatively brilliant director, give him all the leeway he wants, resulting in a film that is a commercial failure but a sleeper hit? You get a very pissed off John Carpenter is what you get. Despite a career of culturally significant awesomeness - “Starman,” “The Thing,” being Adrienne Barbeau’s husband - all it took was some big trouble in Little China for funding to dry up. With that comes the shot-on-a-shoestring horror classic, “Prince of Darkness.” It is an acquired taste, as you will see. As usual, we also talk about a bunch of other stuff we’ve been watching, because this is a podcast, and that’s what you do.

El martes 21 de octubre, la plataforma HBO estrenó el documental “Armado con una cámara”, que cuenta la vida del fallecido cineasta Brent Renaud, el primer periodista de Occidente muerto en la guerra de Ucrania. Renaud fue baleado por soldados rusos durante la invasión a Ucrania, en 2022, cuando filmaba a refugiados ucranianos junto a otro reportero gráfico, Juan Arredondo, quien resultó herido en el ataque. El director de “Armado con una cámara” es el hermano de Renaud, Craig, también cineasta. La película recorre la larga carrera de Brent Renaud, quien trabajó como periodista en diferentes lugares del mundo durante y después de conflictos armados. Hablamos con Juan Arredondo, productor y editor de la película, acerca del trabajo y la memoria de Brent. “Esto es una muestra de esa compasión que tenía Brent, de ese acercamiento que tenía a las personas a las que él entrevistaba y con las que él compartía estos momentos. Era una persona muy atenta al detalle, de las que se interesaba mucho por justamente lo que estaban viviendo estas personas”, dice Arredondo.

427. Casual-Nightmare Gladys Barbie - WEAPONS (2025)

Saison 6 - Episode n°65 - Enregistré à Seignosse le 5 septembre 2025.

Rarement un de nos épisode n’aura été obsolète aussi vite. Quand on a enregistré l’épisode, Michael Darrigade avait décroché un Emmy Awards. Bim. 48 heures plus tard et le matos d’enregistrement probablement pas encore totalement déballé de nos sacs, il en comptait deux.

 Deux des récompenses les plus prestigieuses du cinéma, décrochées à Los Angeles pour son travail auprès entre autres de Vincent Kardasik et Laurent Pujol sur la série-réalité 100-foot wave. Reconnaissance ultime de la profession à cet ancien chauffeur de bus originaire du Boucau qui ne se prédestinait pourtant pas à se retrouver derrière une caméra. Et pourtant.

 Des premières sessions en photo sur Anglet à la vague mythique de Sancho à Nazaré en 2014 filmée presque par hasard, de sa formation sur le terrain auprès du ‘’maître’’ Vincent Kardasik aux périlleuses missions en immersion avec des dealers ou des ultras de l’OM pour la TV, du tournage du documentaire de Damien Castera sur la guerre en Ukraine à la session surréaliste à Cortes Bank, Michael - alias Boula - vit sa vie à 100 à l’heure, passant d’un univers à l’autre comme un caméléon, avec la passion comme moteur. 

Une vie qu’il nous raconte dans cet épisode enrichi des passages du livre de Damien Castera dont il est - presque malgré lui - l’un des protagonistes.

Bref, un épisode sans fioritures et riche en anecdotes, à découvrir d’urgence.

Streamovací služby v posledních týdnech zažívají výrazné změny. Jedním z největších a nejožehavějších oznámení bylo zdražení na streamovacích platformách HBO Max a Disney Plus. Ty již dříve zdražily pro nové předplatitele, nyní se mění cenová hladina i pro stávající uživatele s aktivním předplatným. Čím to, že se kdysi levný streaming stává v podstatě moderním ekvivalentem kabelovek, kam bude tenhle trend pokračovat a kde je jeho strop? 

Cenové změny ale nejsou to jediné, co aktuálně hýbe světem streamingu. Dalším velkým tématem jsou rebrandingy, které zasáhly Netflix, Apple TV+ a také Disney Plus. Netflix totiž ve svém uživatelském rozhraní již na první dobrou neukazuje své Netflix Originals. Proč? Zároveň je otázkou, zda změna Apple TV+ na Apple TV ještě více nezmate uživatele jablížkového universa. A pak je tu změna sekce pro dospělé diváky v rámci Disneyho streamovací platformy.
