"Edgerunner" is a term often used in the context of the cyberpunk genre. It typically describes a specific kind of character or individual who lives on the fringes of society and fights against oppressive powers. The term gained popularity through the tabletop role-playing game "Cyberpunk 2020" by Mike Pondsmith and is also prominently featured in the Netflix series "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners", set in the universe of the video game "Cyberpunk 2077".

An Edgerunner is usually an anti-hero—a mercenary, hacker, street samurai, or some other rebellious figure who operates in a dystopian world dominated by mega-corporations, technological control, and social inequality. They risk their lives to pursue personal goals, challenge the powers that be, or simply survive.
