We then follow the Papacy's gradual recovery of prestige -- through the reactionary rigorism of Pius IX and the 1st Vatican Council; the creation of Catholic social teaching and the intervention of the Church in the class struggle between capital and labor under Leo XIII; and the dramatic reforms of the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. The Srebrenica genocide in 1995, was the culmination of a conflict that marked one of the darkest moments of Europe, indeed humanity. What led to that horrific crime, and what challenges does Bosnia find itself confronting today?

The Balkans war of the early 90s marked a violation of the pledge “Never Again” made in the aftermath of the 2nd World War and the Nazi Holocaust. A war based on ethnicity and religion that had neighbours pitted against each other, and acts of treachery the likes of which boggles the mind, committed and perpetrated.

In today’s episode, Anas Altikriti discusses with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Osman Topcagic, the prevalent situation in Bosnia, and the underlying challenges to peace and stability. The Ambassador explains the ongoing obstinance of Serbia, supported by some European countries, to block Bosnia’s wish to join the EU and NATO.
