Sparks Tomorrow hackathon launched in Saudi Arabia

The annual Congressional Hackathon is Thursday, and ahead of it, FedScoop is reporting that two of the five top recommendations from last year’s event have been implemented and others are on their way to being realized. Steve Dwyer, senior director for innovation at the House Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, told FedScoop that the two completed and now implemented projects are an internal unified House calendar that was launched in July and an internal social media tracking tool that was announced in recent weeks by the CAO to compare lawmakers’ social media statistics.


A bipartisan House bill aimed at improving customer service interactions with government technology breezed through a key Senate panel Wednesday, putting it one step closer to becoming law. The Government Service Delivery Improvement Act passed the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee by an 11-0 tally, setting it up for a vote before the full chamber. The bill, first introduced by Reps. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., Byron Donalds, R-Fla., Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., and William Timmons, R-S.C. in the House last October, passed that chamber in May. The legislation tasks agency heads with designating a senior official to oversee service delivery improvements and charges the Office of Management and Budget with choosing a senior official to coordinate governmentwide efforts on the issue.

Nos dias 22 e 23 de novembro, o Centro Tecnológico da SATC será palco do “Hackathon: Desafio Carvão+”, um evento que busca soluções inovadoras para desafios enfrentados pelo setor carbonífero em Santa Catarina. Realizado pelo Ecossistema Local de Inovação (ELI), o hackathon é voltado para profissionais e universitários dispostos a contribuir com novas ideias para a indústria de extração e transformação de carvão mineral.

O evento, criado pelo Grupo de Trabalho (GT) de Química e Materiais do ELI, contou com diversas reuniões entre representantes das seis carboníferas que integram o Sindicato da Indústria de Extração de Carvão do Estado de Santa Catarina (Siecesc). Durante esses encontros, foram definidos os problemas e as temáticas a serem abordadas pelos participantes do hackathon.

As áreas de foco incluem: a automatização no uso de equipamentos e máquinas de subsolo, o controle da umidade do carvão no processo produtivo e transporte, além do uso de biomassa e turfa para ajuste de especificações do produto. O detalhamento dos problemas específicos será revelado somente no início do evento, incentivando as equipes a pensar de forma criativa e ágil.

As equipes vencedoras serão premiadas em dinheiro, incentivando os participantes a explorar soluções que possam aprimorar a produtividade e sustentabilidade do setor. Além de fortalecer o setor carbonífero, o hackathon busca impulsionar o ecossistema de inovação regional, conectando talentos locais com empresas e instituições ligadas à inovação.

O “Desafio Carvão+” é organizado com apoio do Siecesc - Carvão+, Ferrovia Tereza Cristina, Diamante Geração de Energia e Sebrae. A curadoria do evento conta com a SATC e representantes do ELI, IFSC Criciúma, Criciúma Conecta Inovação, Unesc, ACIC, Centro de Inovação Criciúma, IEL/FIESC e SESI/SENAI, que colaboram para promover uma experiência inspiradora e transformadora para todos os envolvidos.
