Matteo Stettler (Deakin University) gave a presentation entitled “‘Intellectual Felicity’ in the Latin Averroists: Exploring the Limits of Hadot’s Metaphilosophy in the Middle Ages” in the context of the international conference "What Exactly is Philosophy as a Way of Life? Boundaries, Crossroads, Deadlocks". Organized by Marta Faustino (NOVA University of Lisbon) & Hélder Telo (University of Beira Interior), the kick-off conference of the Exploratory Project “Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach” took place from 5 to 6 July 2023 at NOVA FCSH — NOVA University Lisbon.

Depuis les années 60 s’est imposée une nouvelle conception de la philosophie antique mais aussi, plus largement, de la philosophie elle-même. Selon cette nouvelle conception, la philosophie aurait été comprise, depuis Socrate, comme une manière de vivre et non comme une discipline purement théorique visant seulement à produire un savoir. Dans ce livre, Sylvain Roux s’interroge sur les fondements d’une telle conception, mais d’en signaler aussi les limites, afin d’ouvrir à nouveau le débat sur le sens de la philosophie antique.
