Every Halloween, I know I’ll have to face them again. It’s become my tradition—my quiet little battle. Most people think Halloween is just about costumes and candy, but for me, it’s about protecting my home. It starts with the wind, howling through the night, and then the creatures come. Always something different, but they’re all tied to the harvest—pumpkins, corn, even a giant broccoli once. Yeah, I know how that sounds. But these things aren’t just your average vegetables. They’re alive, glowing with this eerie energy. And somehow, they’re out to get me.

It started a few years back when I noticed the giant pumpkin in my yard, staring at me with glowing red eyes. Most people would probably run, but not me. I grabbed my knife and did what I do best—I turned it into soup. As soon as the smell filled the air, its power just faded away. I realized then that food was my weapon, and every Halloween night since, I’ve been fighting these weird, creepy creatures by cooking them into something delicious.

Last year, it was corn—slow-moving, but it kept creeping closer. I didn’t panic. I just chopped it up and made a nice risotto. The smell of it bubbling on the stove chased away whatever magic was making that thing come to life. And the broccoli beast? Let’s just say a hot pan and some olive oil did the trick.

No one really knows what I do on Halloween. To them, I’m just another quiet person living in an ordinary house. But every year, when the sun sets and the wind picks up, I’m ready. I’m not afraid. This is my home, and I’ll protect it, no matter what. It’s kind of funny when you think about it—fighting monsters by cooking them. But hey, it works.

The house smells sweet now, and it’s quiet again. I’ll rest for now, but next Halloween, I know I’ll be ready. There’s always another creature, another challenge waiting. And I’ll be here, knife in hand, turning fear into a meal.
