Unrequitted Angst (Performed by Framed Ophelia)

Much of the content featured here emerged experimentally, and the range of material reflects my lifelong playing and listening experiences. Several of these pieces are composed, played and produced entirely by me. Others, as indicated, are recordings of the band Framed Ophelia, a spontaneous improvisational group with whom I regularly participate.

Nothing offered here is perfect or attempts to follow any consistent rules. It is what it is - please enjoy!

Krzysztof MAJCHRZAK is a well-known Polish/French musician, composer, producer and multiinstrumentalist.
He plays electric bass, fretless, midi bass and a guitar. He was born in Poland,
where he studied classical double bass. In the 80s he took an active part in the creation of a new
wave of Polish improvised music with, among others, “Tie Break” and “New Jazz Band”,
“Symphonic Sound Orchestra”, where he played with all the best musicians of the jazz stage. Since
1988 he has lived in France.
His musical universe is at the crossroads of multiple musical cultures and different sources of
inspiration - from contemporary music through harmolodic, jazz to open fusion, ethnic and
experimental music. He uses all improvisational styles, and in particular “non-idiomatic”
improvisation, constantly exploring and developing his own, original and unique sound.
Krzysztof Majchrzak has received numerous awards from the music critics, as well as the audience.
He has performed with musicians from all the continents and it has opened other kinds music to him
and allowed him to get to know them in practice. He cofounded several international bands, with
musicians like Grant Calvin Weston, Warren Benbow, Pete Drungle who played among others with
Ornette Coleman, James “Blood Ulmer”, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Nina Simone…and also
R. Hollander, Henryk Gembalski, Michal Zduniak or Tom Bergeron, to name a few.
Equally important for Krzysztof Majchrzak is his solo work. He is interested in all forms of
experimentations, in pushing the boundaries among various art forms – when the word, sound and
music coexist on scene.
He took part in various / many performances and composed scores for experimental theater
projects. He also has a keen interest in Dadaism: he took part in the creation of “Poësique”, a
project based on works by Hugo Ball.
Participated in tours and festivals in Europe, United States, Canada, like "Montreal Jazz Festival",
"Nancy Jazz Pulsations", "Festival d’été in Quebec City”,” Jazz Jamboree", "Jazz over Odra",
"Garden Blues", "Jazz a Vienne", "Francofolie French music festival in La Rochelle" .... Invited to
"Jazz Festival Leverkusen", "Jazz Festival Bolzano"....
