Dr. Riley Kirk is a cannabis research scientist and a cannabis educator. She obtained her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, specializing in natural product chemistry where she studied the traditional and contemporary uses of hundreds of medicinal plants. She has worked as an immunology scientist in the biotech industry, currently is an assistant associate professor at the University of Rhode Island and works in the cannabis industry on the medicinal value of the chemical synergies within the plant. 

Riley is the co-founder of the cannabis research and education non-profit called the Network of Applied Pharmacognosy (NAP). NAP is using science as advocacy to research and communicate findings that highlight the unique power of natural products. The goal of Riley’s work is to unite people in the Cannabis industry, academia, and consumers to further the reach of Cannabis education and reduce harm.

Welcome metalheads to another episode of the great metal debate podcast. It's Xander with another back to back album review. Today, I'm probably going to be giggling a lot during this because we're talking about a parody band. Yes that's right, good old fashion spoof comedy. This band is called Dimmu Bongir which is making fun of the popular symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. This is their brand new album titled Dark Medieval Hash which is making fun of Satyricon's debut album Dark Medieval Times. The black and white album cover even looks similar.

Before I go any further, I have to point out that this band actually is from Norway. That is the one thing about this band that isn't a joke. Also, this band is basically the modern black metal equivalent of the band Cannabis Corpse. Those of you who don't know, Cannabis Corpse is a parody death metal band that makes their own original music but just takes small jabs at other classic old school death metal bands by changing around song and album titles to fit marijuana themes.

The same is happening here, only its black metal and the music isn't exactly original. I just discovered this band the other day thanks to the YouTube algorithm bringing me to their music video for "A Witch is Stoned".

"Bongens kammer del 1" is a two and a half minute instrumental intro track which is clearly a parody title for Dimmu Borgir's instrumental "Sorgens kammer del 1" even if I personally am more familiar with the song Sorgens kammer del 2". Ah, ok I'm looking at the track list. The final track on this album is "Bongens kammer del 2". Makes sense.

I'm not really sure what "Du som røyker brunt" is supposed to be a spoof of but next we have the album title track followed by "Deathkush" which is a jab at Mayhem's "Deathcrush".

"I troldskogen fyrer weed" is a parody of "Troldskog Faren Vild" by Ulver. I had to YouTube the first part of the song title to see what popped up because I'm honestly unfamiliar with Ulver.

However I also have no idea what "Pipens Åpenbaring" and "Tåkeleggelse og røketrang" ... Look, I'm not fuckin Norwiegen here, I have no idea how to read or pronounce this shit. I don't know what they are supposed to be spoofs of. But the idea is still funny.

I assume the word "Pipens" has to do with smoking because it sounds like the word pipe.

Honestly, if I didn't know this was meant to be a comedy band, I would've never known. The music and vocals both sound great albeit nothing groundbreaking.

I'm going to keep this review short since I know this band isn't meant to be taken seriously. As I already mentioned, it isn't bad but it's completely unoriginal. I'll give it a 6 out of 10.
Their music is available on all streaming platforms but their physical media is completely sold out on their bandcamp page. I'm not sure if they have plans to do reprints of their "Hvis pipen tar oss" debut that has a colorized parody album cover of "For All Tid". But I don't currently see hard copies of Dark Medieval Hash or shirts available for sale.

Erratum: At approximately 17.20 we recall that in March 2017 Prince Mohammad bin Salman called Trump a "true friend of Muslims" one day before the US bombed a mosque in Syria, killing at least 50. Contrary to what we state, this exchange between Trump and Prince Mohammad did not take place in Riyadh, but in the White House. Trump's trip to Saudi Arabia, where he met again with the prince, was in May 2017.

Fun Facts:
* Out of His Head is a song that features a collaboration between George and Dean Trotter.
* This song is in the key of D minor.
* The lyrics were written on 3rd July 1986, according to an original lyric document.
* The guitar part had been composed a few months previously.
* George was very pleased that Dean was able to write some lyrics to complete the song as the guitar part pleased him.
* Dean's melodic wailings towards the end represents the sirens of police cars.
* The drum solo represents the blows from fisticuffs, boots and truncheons that rain down from all sides upon the victims of police brutality.
* Dean wrote these lyrics very shortly after being shocked and horrified to witness his friend Jack the Frag being brutally arrested and beaten in Exeter High Street in broad daylight at around lunchtime for having a blim of hashish in his pocket.
* Dean himself had been attacked and brutally beaten by police whilst travelling to the unofficial 1986 Stonehenge Festival just a couple of weeks before.
* The previous year, the Stonehenge Festival was prevented from happening by the police.
* That incident became known as The Battle of the Beanfield, and the terrible and unnecessary police brutality was documented in the media worldwide.
* The Levellers wrote a song about the incident on their well known album Levelling the Land.
* A few weeks after the Stonehenge battle, in autumn 1985, George was taken into the back yard of Exeter police station and assaulted by an officer for reporting his bicycle stolen.
* Police brutality was commonplace in England in the 1980s.
* A lot of people in those days referred to the police as “Thatcher’s Gestapo”.
* Fortunately the uk police are far better today than they were in the 1980s.
* Due to many years of cassette deterioration, the quality of this recording is not great.
* We have managed to improve a little on what remained.
* Out of His Head continued to live on as a staple of Rough Terrain’s live set after The Subterraineans had folded.

Sadly, Dean took his own life by suicide at the Clifton suspension bridge, Bristol, in 1994. He was just 29 years old.

Dean had no help at all from the uk medical profession or social services for his mental health, addiction and homelessness. If he had had some professional help he would surely still be here with us today.

Rest in peace, Dean.

We support all independent musicians who are doing something we find interesting. Our team members all have formal music education qualifications.

We are against corporate brainwash muzak, their puppet friends in the mass media, and many other corporate activities. We will fight their desecration of music until either it stops or we die. 

We believe in helping others in the face of corrupt laws and a broken system. We are pro democracy, green energy and free speech.

We're politically liberal. We cannot support the republicans, maga or gun violence in the usa. We don't see there's any real difference, other than in name, between the christian far right in the USA and the taliban in Afghanistan.

In the uk we are broadly pro LibDem/Green/Labour/SNP. We are VERY anti-tory, bnp, ukip, and any of their friends and associates. We have no trust at all in the uk right wing press monopoly and the bbc. Beware the bbc and its claims of neutrality. It is the propaganda mouthpiece of the tory party. It even charges a propaganda tax called the licence fee. But we like Test Match Special and Radio 6, so does that make us hypocrites...? Hmm.

We support independence for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Cornwall. We support the individual and the underdog. We are anti-putin and his war, and pro-Ukraine.
