The gospel of John gives us a lot of metaphors for understanding the life of faith, but they are always only a secondary resource. More essential is the experience of the ways that God shows up in our lives. On Good Shepherd Sunday we don't need to connect with the Good Shepherd metaphor to hear the good news. We just need to listen for the ways that Jesus' voice calls us by name.
