Nicole Schwarz vom Deutschen Kunstverlag spricht mit Elena Degen, Assistenz der Kuration der Ausstellung "⁠⁠Matisse, Derain und ihre Freunde⁠⁠". Sie beantwortet Fragen wie: Was macht die Kunstrichtung des Fauvismus aus? Warum ist es wichtig, die Rolle von Frauen in der Fauvismus-Bewegung zu würdigen? Und worauf können sich die Besucher der Ausstellung freuen?
Der Fauvismus, als erste Avantgarde-Bewegung des 20. Jahrhunderts, prägte von 1904 bis 1908 die Kunstszene in Paris und beeinflusste Künstler wie Georges Braque und Raoul Dufy. Die Ausstellung im Kunstmuseum Basel präsentiert die Farbexperimente der Fauves, hinterfragt konventionelle Betrachtungsweisen und hebt das Schaffen von Künstlerinnen wie Émilie Charmy und Marie Laurencin hervor. Erstmals gewährt sie Einblicke in den fauvistischen Kunsthandel, maßgeblich organisiert von der Galeristin Berthe Weill.
