Our next guest on MusicLab is a true craftsman of sound — Ivan Martinez, a Mexico-based DJ and producer whose connection to electronic music goes back to the late 90s. His story begins in 1998,
shaped by a fascination with atmospheric sounds, melodic layering, and percussive movement.

By 2000, Ivan became part of the influential Acid collective, making his debut at Club Lumina — where he immediately stood out for his pure vinyl sets, delivering an experience both tactile and immersive.
This analog devotion earned him early residencies at Life Lounge and Bóveda Electronic, and led to invitations to some of the scene’s most iconic underground raves: Chorcha (1st Anniversary),
Dreamers, Future Music, and Rave Night among them.

Fast forward to today, and Ivan has evolved into a refined producer with releases on some of the genre’s most respected imprints, including 3rd Avenue, Rynth, Future Avenue, Massive Harmony, Kitchen Recordings,
Empty World, and BC2. His productions blend progressive, organic, and melodic house into rich sonic journeys that have charted on Beatport and gained support from Release Promo, Progressive Astronaut, and more.

Recent live appearances at venues like Estación C, Just in Case, Chemita Bar, Hakuna, and Sky Garden further prove that Ivan’s sound is equally at home on intimate floors as it is in open-air atmospheres.

This mix for MusicLab is a reflection of Ivan’s dedication to craft, rooted in analog warmth and elevated by modern finesse — a deep dive into soulful, textured, and emotionally resonant electronic music.

A Raiz da Disco tradicional iniciou nos EUA, porém o Space Disco, Hi Energy(Hi-NRG), e o Italo Disco são descendentes diretos, ou melhor evoluções eletrônicas da Disco, são vertentes que nasceram depois, com seus estilos próprios, mas que carregaram o DNA da Disco.

O SPACE DISCO começou ali em meados de 1976 a 1979, na Europa, mais precisamente na França Itália e Alemanha, com  bpm mais acelerado, com a temática de um som futurista, espacial, com muito sintetizador, sons robóticos, as vezes até instrumental e frequentemente com uma atmosfera de Ficção Científica(SCI-FI), tecnologia e futuro, citando como exemplo, Cerrone, Giorgio Moroder, a Banda Space, dentre outros.

O HI-NRG ou HI ENERGY, foi em 1978 até meados de 1980, com Bpms que variavam de 120 bpm, muitas das vezes aproximadamente de 125 chegando até 130 bpm, podendo chegar até 140 bpm, com uma cena associada a clubes LGBTQ+ nos Estados Unidos e no Reino Unido, como exemplos temos Patrick Cowley, Bobby O 

ITALO DISCO surgiu aproximadamente em 1979/1980  tendo seu auge até 1986, não morrendo de vez. Majoritariamente o Italo Disco é produção Italiana, mas ecoou pela Alemanha e  Suíça. O Italo Disco foi Pós Disco com o declínio da Disco nos EUA após o movimento DISCO DEMOLITION NIGHT(1979). Um som melódico, emotivo, romântico, como exemplo: Gino Soccio, Fun Fun, Ken Laszlo, Ryan Paris dentre outros

I was born in the late 60's, but only in the late 70's I got to absorb the disco era. I was a listener, but always with a keen sense. It was where everything began, a passion for eletronic music.

In the 80's, these most intensely lived, and for me one of the best. I absorbed a generation of true musicians, which adds even more knowledge and feeling.

Nowadays, with all knowledge that I have gotten, I look intensely all the songs of the past. I really miss those times and I do not deny. After all, having this feeling is a spiritual universe, where we bring with us in our lives, everything good that we got. It is our story on a journey throughout time, going back, reviving às if it were the first time, remembering, inventing everything again making the "now" become Alive as in the pas, becoming a source of life.

Music is a cycle that goes back and forth. As I mentioned, I miss those times, but I did not stop in time, I enjoy the pasta and the present. I think I do define myself as an only style. I always say I like music and with the keen sense I have, I listen to the songs and if I believe they sound good to my ears, that's what I will believe. House is the base. However, in my sets there might be a tech house, a techno, or rather any Söns that may please my ears.

Nowadays, I live intensely researching everything from the past until the current days.

Nasci no final de 60's, logo, fui absorver a era DISCO já no final de 70's, era ouvinte, mas sempre com um feeling aguçado. Foi onde tudo começou a paixão pela Música Eletrônica.

Nos anos 80's, esses mais vividos intensamente, e para eu um dos melhores, absorvi uma geração de verdadeiros musicistas, o que veio acrescentar ainda mais o conhecimento e o feeling.

Hoje, com todo conhecimento que absorvi, busco intensamente todas as músicas do passado, sou sim, verdadeiro SAUDOSO, e não me nego ser saudoso, afinal a saudade é um universo espiritual, onde trazemos conosco em nossas vidas tudo de bom que absorvemos, é a nossa história em uma viagem pelo tempo, indo atraz, revivendo como se fosse a primeira vez, lembrando, recordando, podendo inventar tudo novamente, fazendo com que, o agora, torne vivo como no passado, tonando-me fonte de vida.

A música é um ciclo, vai e volta. Como falei acima, sou saudoso, porém, não parei no tempo, curto o passado e o presente. Acho que não me defino por um estilo somente, gosto sempre de falar que gosto de música, e com o feeling aguçado que tenho, ouço as músicas, e se eu acreditar, soar bem aos meus ouvidos, é o que acreditarei. A House é a base, entretanto, em meus sets, pode ter um Tech House um Techno....ou melhor qualquer música que agradar aos meus ouvidos.

Hoje, vivo intensamente pesquisando, desde tudo do passado, até os dias atuais.
