Underneath the starry skies, on this silent night, A cowboy rides the open plains, bathed in silver light. With a lonesome heart, he wanders through the whispering pines, Dreaming of a Christmas Eve, where love and hope entwine.

Cowboy Christmas Eve By Songwriter Edwin H. Balder

She thought someone would stay. for sure
at the Christmas break from the tour.
But when the buses pulled out to go home
She was the only one left ...alone
She wrapped her coat tight, walked Fifth Avenue slow,
Lights in the windows, families aglow.
Her name lit the charts, her voice filled the air,
But on Christmas Eve, no one was there.
She smiled for the cameras, waved through the pain,
Then slipped through the crowd like snow in the rain.
She hid it well, like stars hide the night,
But inside her heart, nothing felt right.
Christmas felt quiet, Christmas felt cold,
She had the fame, but no body to hold.
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
Just echoes of places she used to know.
But she kept walking, kept hoping, kept still —
Wishing for something that might feel real.
Rockefeller center shimmered, the tree touched the sky,
She watched families skate, children skate by
She stepped on the ice, alone in the spin,
No one noticed the star she’d been.
She twirled once, then slowed to a glide,
Trying to smile with tears she denied.
She hid it well, like stars hide the night,
But inside her heart, nothing felt right.
Christmas felt quiet, Christmas felt cold,
She had the fame, but no body to hold
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
Just echoes of places she used to know.
But she kept walking, kept hoping, kept still —
Wishing for something that might feel real.
Then a little girl skated up slow,
Eyes wide with wonder, cheeks all aglow.
She said, “Thank you, Santa —
Thank you, Santa —
 you made my wish come true.”
“I asked to meet you...you.. you… and now it’s.... you.”
The star knelt down, heart.. full and wide,
And for the first time,.. felt.. joy.. inside.
No spotlight, no stage, no glitter, no show —
Just one child’s smile in the falling snow.
Christmas felt quiet, then Christmas felt bright,
She found her heart in a stranger’s delight.
No stockings, no laughter, no firelight glow,
But something much deeper began to grow.
She held that moment, let go of the pain—
She left the Ice... smiled... whispered her name....
She thought she’d be alone that Christmas eve night
But Christmas…Christmas…
Christmas. Now. felt..right..felt..right.

This desert oasis is home to an enigmatic figure, a songwriter whose journey reads like a long, dusty road of honky-tonk bars and college cafeterias. He wasn't chasing fame or glitter; instead, he chose the soul-crushing beauty of music for music's sake.

Years spent hunched over sticky barroom tables and scribbling lyrics on napkins earned him a reputation—not in the spotlight but in the back rooms where deals are made. He wrote melodies that found their way into the hearts of stars who had lost their own muse. He sold his creations for cash, with no recognition, but the whisper of his songs carried the weight of his soul.

Finally, he bought this piece of desert paradise—a stable income from his timeless songs allowed him to live comfortably, if anonymously. Here in this hacienda, with his family beside him and the mountains as his backdrop, he found the peace to write hits under his own name.
