For this mix, I really worked on getting the electric bass to bloom in the low end—giving it the weight and presence of an 808, even though there wasn’t one in the track.

This song is the continuation of the story from “10,000 Leagues with the Devil.” The music was written by Tom, and the chorus is in 3/4 time. That gave me the idea for the lyrics: the pirate from “10,000” has now reached the end of his contract and has to pay for his deal with the devil. He tries to wriggle out of it by selling his daughter to the devil instead of himself (she is of his blood, after all). Of course, this backfires. The devil is not fooled. So he takes the pirate to purgatory as his bride.
