NOTES
My intention for this song has always been that it be of benefit to people in hospice who are preparing to make their transition into the non-physical state. In the Buddhist tradition, Amitabha is known as the "Buddha of Boundless Light" and this mantra is chanted both at the time of death and for those already deceased. By reciting the six syllables of Om Ami Dewa Hri, the six afflictive emotions are purified and the qualities of the six Paramitas are accomplished. This mantra increases our awareness of our own innate love and compassion and helps us separate from patterns of self-grasping.  In other words, reciting this mantra helps clarify which aspects of "selfhood" are true and which are false. Buddhists believe that when we are fully purified--fully free from attachments to false ideas of self--we are able to see the true nature of mind, which is freedom and bliss. So chanting this mantra brings us straight into our true nature.  And, interestingly, the Buddhist view of death and dying is that we are also offered that opportunity (to see the true clear light) at the moment of death. So this mantra helps us ascend.  
Reciting this mantra for the deceased helps guide their consciousnesses toward the highest possible realms.

”Dr. Dan Malciolu este medic Primar Igiena Alimentației și Nutriție, Psihoterapeut la HOSPICE Casa Speranței.

      Și-a dorit să devină medic încă din prima copilărie și nu s-a abătut niciodată de la acest vis iar în 1999 a obținut titlul de medic primar.
      Abilitățile profesionale în domeniul alimentației le-a dobândit sub îndrumarea prof.dr. Sebastian Dumitrache și Prof Dr Constantin Dumitrescu iar deschiderea internațională în nutriție a început în anul 1992 cu o Școală de vară de nutriție sub egida OMS, urmată de 2 stagii la Universitatea Karolinska din Stockholm. 
      A lucrat 20 de ani în cadrul US Peace Corps, o organizație non-guvernamentală, fiind responsabil în calitate de Director Medical de tot ce însemna sănătatea fizică și psihică a peste 1000 de voluntari americani. A învățat acolo o mulțime de lucruri despre respectul pentru individ și intimitatea lui, ascultare, înțelegere, consiliere și empatie. Ulterior, le-a aplicat la HOSPICE
Casa Speranței
     Are specializare în nutriție, dar și formare în psihoterapie cognitiv comportamentală. Formarea ca terapeut cognitiv-comportamental s-a efectuat în cadrul ARTCC (2003-2007) sub îndrumarea mentorilor dr Radu Teodorescu, medic primar psihiatru și Mugur Daniel Ciumăgeanu, psiholog clinician. Sub îndrumarea acestora, a înțeles cu adevărat cât de multe poate face pentru cei
din jurul său, în momentele de nevoie care pot apărea oricând în viața unei persoane, de la un impas profesional sau o depresie, până la tulburări din sfera anxietății sau angoasele asociate unui divorț.
      La HOSPICE Casa Speranței a ajuns într-o perioadă pe care o numește ”de tranziție”. A văzut că la HOSPICE se căuta și psiholog, și medic. Crede că la HOSPICE a răspuns mai multor cerințe, nu unui singur job. Prin urmare, i s-a oferit un job cu trei direcții: paliație, nutriție, psihoterapie.
     Tot la HOSPICE, a condus și una dintre echipele de îngrijire paliativă la domiciliu.”

Dan Malciolu: 
Lucrurile sunt extrem de personale pentru fiecare pacient în parte. Putem să vorbim de latura preventivă (dacă lucrurile sunt devreme în cursul bolii oncologice), vorbim de o latură suportivă a nutriției dacă pacientul sau pacienta este în cursul unui tratament specific radioterapic, chimioterapic, hormonoterapie, vorbim de un abort nutrițional strict particular pentru pacienții care sunt la riscul de a nu se putea alimenta prin localizarea cancerului, vorbim de cu totul și cu totul alt abort nutrițional pentru cei care încep să scadă în greutate în paralel cu evoluția bolii și vorbim de cu totul și cu totul alte cerințe nutriționale de exemplu pentru supraviețuitoarele de cancer de sân.

Fiecare pacient cu boala lui, chiar dacă e cancer, și același pacient se va hrăni diferit în diversele faze ale bolii lui. Este absolut inutil și lipsit și de sens și de pragmatism să recomazi unui pacient care este imobilizat la pat și singura acasă, fără cadrul de îngrijire, să se hrănească la două ore... este inutil. 

Cred că cel mai greu cancer este cel pe care îl are pacientul, pentru că trăirea cancerului este profund personal. După acest cancer care e în vârful piramidei gravității, vine cancerul pe care îl are cel apropiat mie și după aceea sunt toate celelalte cancere.

Vasta majoritatea pacienților sunt acasă, nu la hospice. Și atunci pacienții ar trebui, din vreme, de la momentul diagnosticului, să primească un pic de ghidaj.

 Un pic de ghidaj care să poată să fie pus în practică, împreună cu cei dragi cu care trăiesc. Pentru că multe din problemele cu care ajungem noi să ne confruntăm aici, la HOSPICE, ar fi putut fi minimizate cu luni sau cu ani în urmă. Este trist să primești pacienți cu tipuri de cancer de față, gât, sferă orele, esofag, care au părat diagnosticate de ceva vreme, li s-au instituit tratamente specifice dar nimeni nu a vorbit despre felul în care se vor hrăni când vor face radioterapie.

Eva Kragh har i mange år undervist og superviseret på hospicer rundt om i Danmark, hvor netop værdighed spiller en afgørende rolle i personalets tilgang til både de svært syge og deres pårørende.

Din 2023 – este psiholog clinician la Fundația Hospice Casa Sperantei, București, unde face evaluare psihologică, oferă suport psiho-emoțional pacienților dar și  apartinătorilor, pentru care face și consiliere psihologică și urmărește realizarea planurilor individuale de intervenție.  
Între 2020 și 1 decembrie 2023 a fost psiholog clinician la Fundația pentru Dezvoltarea Serviciilor Sociale, București, unde a avut, ca responsabilități evaluare psihologica complexă, întocmire fișe de evaluare psihologică și rapoarte de evaluare psihologică și psihodiagnostic, - aplicare de metode si tehnici standardizate, realizare de sesiuni de pregatire, cursuri dar și ședințe de consiliere psihologică.
Din 2018 este și psiholog clinician la Societatea Civilă Profesională de Psihologie PĂUN ȘI ASOCIAȚII, București iar între 2009 – 2020 a fost psiholog în cadrul Asociației Serviciul Iezuiților pentru Refugiați din România/JRS, București, unde a făcut evaluare psihologică complexă,  consiliere școlară și vocatională, a contribuit la întocmirea și gestionarea planurilor de intervenție, fișe de evaluare psihologică și psihodiagnostic etc. 
Nu în ultimul rând, între 2008 – 2009 a fost psiholog la Associazione, Virtus Ponte Mammolo Onlus din Roma, Italia, unde a făcut evaluare psihologică complexă, consiliere școlară și vocațională, a avut ca responsabilități întocmirea și gestionarea planurilor de intervenție, fișe de evaluare psihologică, a rapoartelor de evaluare psiholăa și psihodiagnostic șamd. 

Are formare complementară în Psihologie Clinică și Consiliere Psihologică (2017 – 2019), Centrul Național de Formare Profesională în Psihologie, București, un masterat în Managementul Organizațional și al Resurselor Umane (2007 – 2009), Universitatea SPIRU HARET, București și licență în Psihologie și Sociologie, Specializare: Psihologie, Sociologie (2002 – 2006), Universitatea SPIRU HARET, București.

Mihai Păun: În oncologie, în paliație, nu mai avem timp de așteptat!

Încet-încet, oamenii au început să vină la psiholog. Dar în oncologie, în paliație, nu mai avem timp de așteptat, trebuie să acționăm cât se poate de repede, măcar să echilibrăm – sau măcar să înțelegem anumite comportamente.

Ca psihologi, trebuie să ținem în primul rând cont de bagajul cultural, de unde provine persoana respectivă. Înainte de a începe o ședință de consiliere psihologică, trebuie să facem un interviu clinic, o anamneză, punem niște întrebăricheie, ca să putem să ne dăm seama de unde a plecat persoana respectivă (...), pacientul, și cum a ajuns în vulnerabilitate. Nu am să folosesc ”cancer”, ”boală” ci ”persoană vulnerabilă”, și nici pacient. Îmi place să spun, ca psiholog, că încerc să întăresc niște comportamente pozitive al unei persoane aflate în vulnerabilitate.
De celelalte sintome, să zic, se ocupă medicul, de partea spirituală se ocupă consilierul spiritual, de partea socială se ocupă asistentul social. Eu ca psiholog încerc, poate câteodată pe ultima sută de metri, să îmbunătățesc niște comportamente sau să definesc niște concepte ale persoanei vulnerabile pentru a merge pe ultima sută de metri cu demnitate din punct de vedere psiho-emoțional.

40 - "În paliație, pacientul nu este doar un om bolnav, este un întreg!" - Mirela Nemteanu, CEO Hospice

Mirela Nemțanu, CEO al HOSPICE Casa Sperantei (din 2016), cea mai mare fundatie din Romania care ofera servicii de ingrijire paliativa pentru pacienti ce sufera de boli incurabile, servicii acordate gratuit si neconditionat copiilor si adultilor care se lupta cu boli incurabile, cu prognostic limitat de viata.

Are o experienta de aproape 20 de ani in domeniul multinationalelor si organizatiilor private mari, facand parte pentru multi ani din echipele de top-management ale acestora. 

Din 2003 se dedica activ si voluntar sustinerii proiectele de CSR ale companiilor din care a facut parte sau organizatiilor partenere. Din 2012 este membru al Boardului Consultativ al Facultatii de Marketing, ASE, din 2016 este membru al Boardului Consultativ al Rectoratului Academiei de Studii Economice, iar la ora actuala face parte din diverse asociatii de profil dedicate sustinerii drepturilor femeii si a societatii civile.

A primit nenumarate premii si recunoasteri legate atat de cariera sa corporatista, cat si de reusitele legate de dezvoltarea fundatiei pe care o conduce si a paliatiei la nivel national si regional. 

Din 2021 a fost inclusa in “Top 50 cele mai influente femei din România” realizat de Forbes Romania.

De cand a preluat conducerea fundatiei, Mirela a reusit sa obtina dublarea numarul de pacienti, deschiderea a inca unui centru Hospice si coordonarea obtinerii a peste 40 milioane de EUR – bani dedicati complet oferirii gratuite de servicii de ingrijire paliativa bolnavilor incurabili. Totodata, in 2021, HOSPICE Casa Sperantei a primit recunoasterea de „Spitalul Anului” din partea Romanian Healthcare Awards.
Este absolventa a Facultatii de Marketing, Academia de Studii Economice, a masterului cu aceeasi specializare din cadrul aceleasi facultati, si totodata a Scolii Nationale de Studii Politice si Administrative, specializarea Comunicare si Relatii Publice. A efecutuat un MBA la CODECS si Open University si a fost doctoranta in domeniul Marketing-ului, la ASE. 
Este casatorita cu Florin Nemtanu, profesor universitar si vice-decan al Facultatii de Transporturi UPB si au impreuna 2 copii: Ingrid (19 ani) si Victor (17 ani), amandoi extrem de implicati in activitati de voluntariat si mari sustinatori ai HOSPICE 😊.

HOSPICE Casa Speranței, organizație non-profit înființată în 1992 la Brașov, a introdus pentru prima oara conceptul de îngrijire paliativă în România. De atunci, HOSPICE Casa Speranţei a fost si a ramas liderul serviciilor de ingijire paliativa din tara si din regiune, luptand zi de zi pentru soarta bolnavilor incurabili carora nu li se mai acorda sanse. În cei 32 de ani de existență, HOSPICE a adus alinare și speranță pentru peste 50.000 de copii și adulți cu boli incurabile si peste 100.000 de apartinatori ai acestora.

Today, we're honoured to be joined by Mike Parish, a 2024 Attitude Magazine Pride Award winner. Mike's story is one of love, dedication, and advocacy. After meeting his Husband Tom in 1975 they shared 47 years together. When Tom was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy — a rare and degenerative form of dementia — Mike became his primary carer, navigating both the practical and emotional complexities of caring for the person he loved. Out of this experience, Mike co-founded the LGBTQ+ Dementia Advisory Group in 2022, working to ensure that LGBTQ+ people facing dementia receive the support, dignity, and understanding they deserve.


In Part One, we hear Mike and Tom’s story: their life together as a couple, and their journey through dementia, love, and loss. In Part Two, Mike shares insights from his advocacy work and lived experience, including how we can better support LGBTQ+ people — and those closest to them — when they are unwell or approaching the end of their life.

Belonging and Beyond: Caring with Pride; a Husband's Story (Part 2)

Michelle Parker-Clark, the pastor of Congregational Care at Murphysboro United Methodist Church, and Melise Oakley from Hospice of Southern Illinois joined WXAN to talk about an event coming up on Friday, May 16th at 10 am. We’ll hear how these traditions shape experiences of loss, and why understanding and respecting them is so important—especially in healthcare settings, where cultural understanding can make all the difference.

Our ‘Outstanding’ services are provided free of charge to patients and their families. Our aim being to provide the highest quality care, helping people to make every moment count.  

Around 3,600 patients each year are cared for at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. This care supports people to improve their quality of life and fulfil their end of their life choices. 

It will cost over £14 million to run our services in 2025/2026. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £8.1 million. With the help of our community, we need to raise a further £5.9 million through donations, fundraising activities, retail sales, The Education and Conference Centre and Bistro. If we fail to meet this target the difference will, reluctantly, have to be taken from our limited reserves. Sustaining services for people in our community is our focus and therefore we are extremely grateful to everyone who demonstrates their dedication, commitment and generosity and helps protect our reserves for the future.
