This week on Everyday Injustice, we are joined by former federal prosecutor Jared Fishman who is now the founder of Justice Innovation Lab.

He tells the remarkable story of Henry Glover’s murder in Hurricane Katrina–era New Orleans.  Glover was killed by police officers following the hurricane, and his killing was thoroughly covered up.

According to the book description, “In 2009, Jared Fishman was a young prosecutor working on low-level civil rights cases in the Justice Department when a file landed on his desk.

“That folder contained two items: a story from The Nation magazine examining a mysterious death in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and an autopsy report for a man named Henry Glover, whose charred remains were found in a burned-out car two weeks after the storm. The autopsy report, bafflingly, listed no cause of death. But according to The Nation story, a gravely wounded Glover had last been seen in a car driven by a New Orleans police officer.”

Fishman eventually flies to New Orleans to learn about what happened, and teams up with a rookie FBI agent, and together they started to track down anyone with information about what had happened to Glover on that day.

In this week’s episode, host Margaret Walls talks with Carlos Martín, a project director at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University and a university fellow at Resources for the Future, about housing adaptation and resilience amid climate change, using as a primary example New Orleans housing infrastructure after Hurricane Katrina. Martín argues that the resilience of housing infrastructure is key to climate adaptation, particularly for economically disadvantaged communities. He also discusses how residential buildings produce emissions and contribute to climate change; achieving US decarbonization goals will require related upgrades and improvements, which not all households can tackle with ease.

On this episode, we sit down and talk to with a native of New Orleans and Personal Chef for some of todays biggest sports athletes, Chef Will Jones. Our conversation first starts off talking about how Chef Jones grew up in New Orleans, and where his passion for cooking initial came from. Chef explains that outside of this natural interest in cooking because of being from the south, he went to college for business management. But it was one day that he saw a man walking around campus with the checker pants that culinary students and people who cook at restaurants wear and it really intrigued him. Chef Jones later goes on to reveal to us that he was not only inspired by the guy in the checker pants but he also had a older brother who cooked and another brother who was in the streets, who always looked out for him and push him to do positive things with his life. We then transition to a new topic, when our Co-Host T-Reg asks him about how he was effected by "Hurricane Katrina". Chef tells us that the hurricane was the best and worst thing that could've happened to him because he had to evacuate his home and leave everything behind, but also got a sign from God to move to Atlanta, and that's when his life changed drastically. And while being in Atlanta, he was working at a very popular restaurant where a lot of celebrities used to come to eat. After building connections and relationships in Atlanta, unfortunately his mother got sick and evidently passed away, but he then moved back to New Orleans and capitalize on his skills and connections which eventually got him cooking for the likes of star athletes like Reggie Bush, and now being Anthony Davis's personal chef.
