Mubin asks Carl Emmerson, Deputy Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, about the October 2024 Budget.

On taxes, the Chancellor raised an extra 40 billion pounds a year. Did she go far enough or did she go too far? And how coherent was it as a tax plan?
On fuel duty, it was quite a surprise there was no change. Does Carl think that showed some of the risk averseness that the government has?  
Carl discusses big tax rises. The Chancellor pledged to no return to austerity. What does this extra tax and borrowing mean for public services?
Some departments, like the NHS and overseas aid, are going to be getting 4-5% increases in spending. And that's going to mean a lot less for other departments, particularly given how much the NHS takes up as a percentage of public spending.
What's actually happening in terms of growth? 
What are the changes on employer's National Insurance contributions. Who will be affected and how? Has the government effectively raised taxes on working people? 
Did the government get it right on the changes made to inheritance tax?
Capital gains tax. We saw the rate increase and it was a modest increase. Was that the right level?

Was there really a fiscal black hole of £22 billion?

The podcast concerns a decision from the UK First-tier Tribunal (Tax Chamber) regarding an appeal by Rohit Kotecha against a determination by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) concerning Inheritance Tax (IHT) on loan notes in Mrs. Nirmala Kotecha’s estate. The appeal was initially struck out due to a failure to comply with a tribunal order. This decision addresses two applications: one for reinstatement of the appeal, which was submitted late, and a second for permission to submit that reinstatement application out of time. The tribunal ultimately allowed both applications, citing issues with the appellant's agent's email system and emphasizing proportionality in applying sanctions, while considering relevant case law such as Martland, Katib, and BMW Shipping Agents.

NØCNITSA aka Alen Tirović is a 19 year old BOCHKA/Industrial Hard Techno DJ and producer from a small village in Slovenia. He started dreaming about DJing already at 6 years old when he stepped into the world of EDM. His biggest inspiration to start his career were Martin Garrix, Avicii, Tiësto and Nicky Romero. When he was 13 he started listening to Techno and Hard techno. At 15 he went to his first private rave party and fell in love with Schranz and Hard Techno. Not long after that he bought his first controller and he started experimenting with different genres of Hard Techno. At 16 he got his first chance to DJ affront of a public and that is where his DJ career started. He mostly played Schranz and Hard Techno, but then switched to Industrial Hard Techno and Bochka. His style is mostly inspired by PARAPHER and CEKTA, with constant mixing of sounds, hard fader chops and intense buildups. He mostly played at private raves but at 18 years old he got his first chance to DJ in a real club in Ljubljana, where he was warming up the stage for RE:VISION at the Church Of Hardtechno. After the gig he moved away for some time from DJing and to start producing and experimenting. In that time he met a lot of amazing bochka/industrial techno producers and DJs such as M_R_T, ABAT, M4R3, KØDR, 2FEL and many more. At 19 he got invited to DJ at NOVUS I in Publika Bar & Klub Ljubljana, where he was closing the event in style, with a industrial techno start and a hard bochka ending. After NOVUS I people recognize the name NØCNITSA after very energy filled sets and a very unique style of mixing tracks.
