Today I (Joti Brar) spoke with Garland Nixon about the contradictions at the heart of the declining imperialist camp.

Why does the Trump regime need constantly to ‘talk up’ the markets, to talk up US military and economic power? Why do European imperialists agree to such humiliating terms when new ‘deals’ are announced? Is this proof that west Europe has been colonised?

We talked about the superstitious reverence western workers are imbued with from birth regarding ‘the rules’ and ‘the law’, leading far too many of us to become endlessly caught up in trying to find the right law with which to fight our corner and bring some corrupt institution or individual to account.

But who makes the law and who does it apply to? What about international law? Does it really exist? Did it ever? How did the Geneva Conventions and the Nuremberg Tribunals get replaced with the ICC and the ‘rules-based international order’?

We also discussed the fascistic laws and regimes of repression that are being rolled out across western imperialist societies with minimal resistance. This is all part of the Nato bloc’s drive to war, and the leaderships of the mass working-class organisations that should be helping us defend ourselves from these attacks by the class enemy and oppose its criminal war/genocide machine are instead helping in their implementation.

We don’t need Corbyn 2.0 in 2029, we need a mass campaign to reclaim/rebuild our unions and other organisations right NOW.

Russia's irredentist claims on its former holding Alaska have provided fodder for comedians, but the stakes at the Trump-Putin meeting in the Last Frontier are no laughing matter. Despite the escalating mutual nuclear threats between Washington and Moscow, Trump's call for a Russia-Ukraine "land-swap" obviously means Kyiv being forced to accept Moscow's annexation of much of its territory in exchange for the return of other pieces its own territory illegally occupied by Russia. Meanwhile, Moscow sends drones to threaten NATO member Lithuania, which sits on the critical corridor to the Russian exclave (and tactical missile outpost) of Kalningrad. Germany has responded by sending troops to the Baltic country—its first post-war foreign deployment. Appeasement of aggression failed to win peace at Munich in 1938, and there's no reason to hope it will in Alaska today. But the difference is that the contending powers today have nuclear weapons. Yet nothing was done, apart from ineffectual Great Power diplomacy that had zero impact on the ground. Now that the foretold massacre is underway—with hundreds killed, thousands missing, and no end in sight—calls are at last emerging for boycott, divestment and sanctions against the United Arab Emirates, the apparent underwriter of the genocidal RSF.
