Historical Background
“April in Paris” was composed by Vernon Duke in 1932, with lyrics by E.Y. “Yip” Harburg. Originally written for the Broadway musical Walk a Little Faster, the song became an enduring jazz standard, immortalized by renditions from Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Charlie Parker. With its sweeping, romantic melody and poignant lyrics, April in Paris evokes a dreamlike vision of springtime love and longing amidst the blooming boulevards of the French capital. The piece resonates with listeners as both a celebration of beauty and a yearning for a distant ideal.

About This Arrangement
This trio arrangement, crafted with a balance of warmth and elegance, features:

Nylon-string guitar, which leads with the melody in expressive chord-melody phrasing.
Acoustic bass, providing lyrical counterpoint and harmonic grounding.
Drums, played with brushes and light cymbal textures to preserve the romantic character.
String pad sounds, performed using a Nord synthesizer, adding a soft orchestral shimmer beneath the trio.

Tempo & Feel: Played at a moderate ≈137 BPM, the piece swings gently, floating through lyrical phrases with expressive rubato.

Key & Harmony: Arranged in G major, the harmonies incorporate rich jazz voicings like Gmaj7, E7, A7, Bm7, and Cmaj7, with tasteful chromatic movements and modal inflections that reflect the tune’s lush harmonic language.

A colorful and impressionistic piece inspired and based on the poem "A Note", by Canadian poet Bruce K. Filson. It's a hidden musical path around the circle of fifths used as a metaphor to the mysterious languages of
 nature, life and endless wintery landscapes. I thought of it as a story that has never been told but contains all the shades of the moon and colours of the 
aurora, dancing in a timeless and unique blend of harmonies. The choir works as a narrator, observers of the wintery and
 dancing landscape, describing and contemplating the scenes as they waver with it and move into the mystical lights. What 
language does it speak?

Snow settles, echoing truth.

It fills my footprints. A pair of sundogs gone.
What language does it speak?

The aurora glimmers in greys,

In Topographic Meadows, sound moves like light over changing landscapes—soft chords drifting like mist, clarinet melodies winding through open spaces, brass surges rising like sunlit hills. Near the horizon, a jazz quartet stirs the air with bright syncopations before the scene dissolves into distant, fading clarinet echoes, each part conjuring a different aspect of these Topographic Meadows.

Sébastien Dubois creates one-take piano & organ improvisations, blending resonance, silence, and presence. His project Musiques & Mémoires captures fragile, unedited moments recorded in resonant spaces — from upright pianos and sheds to vast churches.

A multidisciplinary artist from La Malbaie (Canada), he is also a muralist, traveler, and storyteller. His works echo tenderness, memory, and inner journeys, weaving sound and color into a living cartography.

Alex Niedt (pronounced "neet") is a Los Angeles-based music maker.

Award-winning composer of music for film, TV, stage, games, and the concert hall. As a composer and producer, he has received awards in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Berlin, Brazil, including a nomination at the International Sound and Film Music Festival in Croatia, and screening at the prestigious Festival de Cannes. All his music is sensitively conceived and uniquely crafted to story and picture.

Since 2020 he is based in Vancouver after becoming a permanent resident in Canada in respect of the work he has been internationally developing within the film, music, and visual media industry.

Some of his most recent works include the original score for the film "As Verdades" (The Truths), directed by José Eduardo Belmonte and produced by Gullane and Globo Films, and the game Josh Journey: Darkness Totems, by Província Studio. Currently he also works as a singer and composer in residency at Laudate Singers, North Vancouver, Canada.

In Zen, ensō (円相) is a circle that is hand-drawn in one uninhibited brushstroke to illustrate the moment when the mind sets the body free to create.

Valhjim is a music composer with an eclectic approach to different genres: rock, pop, folk, New Age, and experimental electronic music. Greatly driven by imagination and poetic imagery, he combines multiple instrumental textures to fire the imagination of his listeners. 

His more experimental ambience and electronic music is built with layers of suggestive sound textures, rhythms, and melodic lines that stir the imagination into suggestive imagery and worlds unseen, true architectures of sound that open up limitless spaces to explore. Often Valhjim's melodies sail through genre thresholds, crossing over from one genre to another, from neo classcal to electronic, or from jazz to rock or new age.
