Just finished making this in my room. I think the kinda odd notes match my personality, and previous and current mood. I have been living in the worst circumstances, with no answer as to why, or how, which has been killing me slowly. It hurts. I now wait very patiently for the games to stop, as if I have been ensnared in a world of nonsensical impossibilities, dying in truth-- stuck in the dark shadow of before hate's end of growing nothingness leaving that but a void inside and between I and mine, too fixed wholefully to not claim complete connectivity and fulfillment, like an angel on a swing with no sun, lonely, completely umonopocuppied, simply surrounded by the wrong environment and people, waiting to have fun. Hence, I made this to signify my pain, and the angel on a swing waiting patiently for freedom and friends. Welp, time to relax..Ahhhhh... I hope you enjoy the song, peace out. +++   = <3

Whispers on the Border steps away from open celebration and into unease. A folk rock pulse and neo modern classical harmony start with a heavy, repetitive beat that feels like trouble moving in the distance, something serious unfolding just out of sight. The rhythm is dark and insistent, like a train of bad news slowly rolling toward the horizon, with a subtle melodic metal edge sharpening the mood.

Against that ominous pulse, the winds and lighter melodic lines speak for the innocent ones living under that shadow. Their phrases feel clear and unbroken, still shining in their own character, not panicking, not yet fully aware of what is coming. The piece holds a fragile balance between foreboding and the quiet hope that this will pass, that the threat is only a cloud and not the storm itself.

About the album

Whispers on the Border is Movement II of Whirl: Ukraine in Sound, an instrumental cinematic and neo classical suite with symphonic metal intensity and Eastern European folk and Balkan colour. Across 15 movements the album follows a journey from peace to war, through loss and mourning, and toward a scarred return to calm, written from the perspective of those living through aggression rather than watching from afar.

With 23 years dedicated to the art of composition, Uli Nicholas (Ulisses Nicolau Alberto Barros) creates music that bridges the gap between classical tradition and contemporary styles. His musical foundation was built at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), where he studied Classical Music for two years and was a student of Maestro Joca Costa for three. He further refined his piano technique under the guidance of pianists and professors Liana Monteiro and Leandro Rocha, the latter also being an accomplished composer.

A multi-instrumentalist who also masters the acoustic and electric guitar, Uli possesses a unique intellectual background, having studied Physics for three years at UFRN. This blend of logic and emotion defines his eclectic catalog of entirely original compositions and lyrics. His work spans genres and explores vast themes: from philosophy, history, social criticism, and environmental preservation to the vibrant energy of Pop, celebrating love and pure fun.

Today, Uli continues to expand his creative horizons by focusing on meticulous arrangement and digital orchestration, maintaining his rigorous workflow of composing via notation software. His musical production is overseen by Rogério Vieira, a renowned producer in Brazil who mentors students internationally. At its core, Uli's work is driven by a desire to transmit messages of love and hope. His compositions often explore deep spiritual reflections, resonating with themes of faith and transcendent values that speak directly to the soul. All music and lyrics are solely authored by Uli Nicholas.

I’ve always lived at the crossroads of music and poetry — where feeling becomes form, and melody turns memory into meaning. Whether it’s a lingering jazz note, a well-placed rhyme, or a shift in tempo that tells a deeper story, I’m drawn to that quiet magic where art reflects life with a little more style.

My roots are in classic music — the kind that doesn’t chase the moment but lingers with you long after the last note. Over time, that love expanded into poetry writing and jazz — especially the kind that swings, speaks, and smirks all at once. Jazz, to me, isn’t just a genre; it’s a personality. A conversation. A little tilt of the head and a grin that knows more than it says.

When I set out to create an album, it’s rarely just a collection of songs. I approach it like a personal playlist — one that drifts and flows as if the entire tracklist were one long, uninterrupted piece. Each track leans into the next, shifting mood, pace, or voice, but always carrying the same thread of feeling. I want you to listen the way I do — not as a shuffle of moments, but as a cinematic arc. One breath that lasts an hour.

Lyrically, my work is rooted in lived experience. Sometimes it’s obvious. Other times it’s just the skeleton of a memory, dressed up in wit, irony, or longing. I draw from real-life events, then let the poet in me twist, stretch, or sweeten them to taste. Depending on the tone of the album — playful, romantic, nostalgic, or something in between — I try to keep the emotional truth intact while giving it a fresh coat of creativity. A little humor where it fits. A deeper dive where it hurts.

My newest jazz album continues this tradition — short-lined swing tracks, conversational duets, and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. It’s an homage to late-night alleyway ballads, rooftop serenades, and train station goodbyes — all bound together with a sense of charm and cohesion. Each song is its own little scene, but together they tell a story — one you can revisit with each replay.

I’m a producer and music editor that’s been making things and art for 8 years, in which currently, I’m stating from 2025. A few years ago, I accidentally slashed my right index finger’s tendon, which left my finger unable to bend from the first bending joint, but I’m still able to bend my finger at a functional level enough to play lots of several instruments like pads, the piano, strings, and percussion. I’d say it’s quite harder to keep in tune, and play flexibly and directively easier, but I still conduct, and love to make music because I’m in love with music.

Things’ll get better maybe… It’s okay (: 

… Sometimes, I’m all alone — and that’s okay i guess, because… everything is okay. Things get better with time. And whenever I don’t have to be alone anymore, or whenever I am alone, I just revisit myself, who i can talk to whenever I want. True friend. To talk to a true friend, you, all that you need to do is listen to your heart and your feelings, or talk or think to yourself something, just like if you were talking to someone, and share a statement or sound to you like they’re are two of you but your both yourself and so much that you both are, either, as one or several connected. You could just say something, and then simply reply back. You could ask “How are you doin?” to yourself, and then, in true ability, and the law of conversation you need only know what yourself asked you, and the double sided connection that is between you and you (short or long-distance relationship circumstances between self-symbiotic life), to simply answer to the messages and notes you, or even as well as, or possibly instead inner you (your conscious combined with your feelings, or/and soul) sent your self, or left yourself, and say something back. You might be able to hear your words to yourself fully clearly though, but it’s great to know about both ways of receiving Your message. 

You both might agree on certain things, or a lot of things but there will be in fact one person you’ll be talking to __ఌ 

Depression used to feel like it was driving me insane, and insanely sad, so much that I began to feel like I couldn’t take it in my heart anymore, and just wanted to die.
