In this episode of the ISD OGs podcast, emerging instructional designer and host Kelly Shipe explores two key learning theories for the digital age: Situated Cognition Theory and Connectivism.

Situated Cognition Theory emphasizes learning by doing in authentic contexts, where knowledge is intertwined with the environment and activity.  Imagine learning to bake by being in the kitchen, not just reading a recipe.

Connectivism focuses on learning as connecting to and filtering information from a network of online sources. Think about building your learning network by following experts, joining online communities, and curating resources.

Both theories stress active learning but in different ways. Situated Cognition Theory prioritizes the immediate environment, while Connectivism expands learning to a global network.
