Recently, I wrote an Introit for Neilston Parish Church.  Today, I wrote one for Broom Parish Church.  It's intentionally straightforward and tuneful, but very traditional.

24-6 Finzi - Introit Op 6

Here is something a bit different from me, a piece for organ.  I wrote this as an Introit to be used in the Advent season.  The work is based on the old French carol “Quittez pasteurs vos brebis”.

Introit: The Mouth of the Righteous (Os Justi)  LIVE

This site is a mix of some of my compositions and solo guitar performances.

I arrange Scottish tunes for small ensembles, and occasionally write songs with a folk influence. Find my tunes on the ArrangeMe website https://www.arrangeme.com/

I waded into virtual orchestration about 2013, with the intent of composing.  I started programming recordings of other's compositions and have been loving it.  I'm committed to perfecting my craft and I enjoy especially producing music by late nineteenth and early twentieth century English composers.  Something about the music of that time and place speaks to me...  

I also arrange and produce strings in collaboration with other artists and songwriters.  Always fun!

Marcus Karl Maroney studied composition and horn at The University of Texas at Austin and Yale School of Music. His principle composition teachers were Joseph Schwantner, Ned Rorem and Joan Tower. In 1999, he received a fellowship to the Tanglewood Music Center, the First Hearing award from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and an ASCAP/Morton Gould Young Composer’s award. Other awards and fellowships followed, including: a Charles Ives Scholarship from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, a residency at the Copland House and consecutive Woods Chandler Memorial awards from Yale University.

Commissions have come from such organizations and individuals as eighth blackbird , the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Timothy McAllister, the Moores School Percussion Ensemble, the Texas Music Festival, the Deer Valley Music Festival and the Juventas! New Music Ensemble. Three Pieces for Sting Orchestra was recently premiered by the Utah Symphony, and he was recently named the winner of the inaugural College Orchestra Directors Association Composition Contest. 

Mr. Maroney served on the faculty of the Yale School of Music from 2002-2004. He is currently Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music and on the Artistic Board of Musiqa, a composer-led contemporary music group based in Houston.
