This time, I am pleased to showcase Jewel Dirks based in the USA.

Here are their words about their music, their process and their lifestyle.

Jewel Dirks: "Although educated in music, I’ve spent most of my life in psychology, first as a counselor for the seriously mentally ill and then teaching brain anatomy and neurology. 
I live on a small farm surrounded by the Wind River Indian Reservation, in Wyoming, USA, and am retired, arthritic and old (73). However my consuming passions in life remain roaming the wilderness areas with my pack goats and composing music from natural sounds.

I am nonbinary, which has given me the gift of perceiving the world in unusual ways.

All my music is made totally from sounds which surround me that I have recorded--coyotes, birds, donkeys, tree branches, frogs.... I try to explore the many different ways that a sound can be heard through various sampling tools and effects. I'm beginning to find that once I do that, I tend to return to the original animal or object with a completely new understanding of its nature. I've discovered that in making music I better appreciate the world in which I live.

Ideally, to fully appreciate my music, I’d suggest you listen to just one piece a week, or if you're younger, maybe just one piece a month. My intent is that I want each piece to be a surprise, and for you not to get used to the sound. My music is not something you can dance to, nor ease you into a extended meditative state. It’s not overtly political, but it hopefully reminds us of the imperiled earth and its natural beauty and sounds.

SPECIFIC METHODS OF COMPOSING: 
I’ve coined the term EarthMusic to describe my music. I record a single sound of something that's special in my little farm and surrounding wilderness--say, a donkey bray or coyote howl. 
I then explore that sound by focusing on single aspects or colors, such as a particular curl in the sound (think of the beginning of a bird call), or maybe a section of the frequencies that are unusual (think of the combination of frequencies which make up the rich call of a sheep). 
I add effects in order to exaggerate or enhance those quirky parts of each color I've isolated. Exploring the original sound in this way will give me several varieties of little colors to use as a palette--sometimes as many as 30 to 50 different little sounds all from that one brief 3-second original recording. I can then assign these different colors to a keyboard, which allows me to move them around easily at different pitches and to put them in different rhythms or time frames.

In this way I explore that one original sound to extreme, and present it to you as a gentle brief moment of my understanding of the beautiful sounds our earth so generously give us.

I am heavily involved in Zero Population Growth and Voluntary Human Extinction movements, and hope that my music will remind listeners of our beautiful planet.

The artwork by Berlin-based artist Maria Louceiro reflects the ethereal essence of the album - a soft blend of blues and abstract textures evoking dreamlike introspection. 

Available digitally and on cassette, Tales of the Silent Hyphae invites listeners into a world where sound grows like roots, branching into hidden and shadowed spaces.

Available in digital and vinyl format, this release is a kaleidoscope of sound and vision, offering four original tracks that explore the depths of Deep Hypnotic and Industrial Techno, created by the talented Fluid, INVERNO, TÖRIA, and Pooja B. 
Each track reflects a unique interpretation of the compilation’s evocative theme.

Complementing these originals are four remixes that push boundaries further, blending the pulsating energy of Groovy Techno, the dark allure of Rainbow Goth, and the nostalgic hues of Synth Wave, by Astra Pentaxia, lisa tba, Cyber Witch and Gioski.
The artwork by Berlin-based visual artist and photographer Maria Louceiro beautifully encapsulates the essence of "Illusion(s)." With a striking double-exposure image, a haunting fusion of a cloaked figure and a serene landscape in shades of green and grey, it invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world of layered meaning and surreal soundscapes.

This compilation isn’t just music: it’s a journey through illusion(s) and reality.

Astra Pentaxia (@astra-pentaxia) is a US-born musician and visual artist specialising in rainbowgoth sound design and crafting analog double exposure captures. Active as a professional photographer since 2010, Astra’s formal exploration into music making came in 2016 after surviving the Ghostship fire in Oakland, California. Currently residing in Berlin, she responds to the inspiration of memory, saturation, and the dreamworld.
2017 witnessed the San Francisco release of her first EP 'Confessions from the Rainbow Manor,’ and 2022 oversaw her bass synth contributions to ‘press enter,’ the dystopian instrumental rock release from the Berlin-based band, backward futures. Since 2023, she formed the duo Prism Obsidian with another visual artist and researcher in postcolonial theology, culture and education, and the two produced a 40 minute piece for radio play for radioart106.
Astra will release her first entirely self-produced ambient solo album ‘Whispers
from the Rainbow Cave’ in September of 2024.

Those who know the Berlin scene a bit know INVERNO as grounding member of the Blvsh collective and more recently as the KLEM label head. 
We were very pleased to hear INVERNO was in the mood and especially made some time to make us a mixtape. We didnt had to wait long to get a one hour and twenty minutes set in our inbox and oh what a set it is!

BIO:

INVERNO (no pronouns) means winter in Portuguese, but their performances and productions are far from being cold and static. Their multifaceted knowledge of music is reflected in every genre-fluid and enigmatic set. Creativity shines through with their original productions - always playfully crafted and rarely constricted to one genre.

Eager to experiment and explore the full spectrum of Techno, INVERNO likes to blend boundaries between deep/hypnotic and hard/industrial Techno.
INVERNO has a natural understanding for groove and harmonies as they weave
together tracks, focusing on story-telling and rhythm.
INVERNO is the head of KLEM, an experimental label about Ambient, Lofi and Techno. They contributed to several VA compilations with Ambient and Industrial Techno tracks.

In 2019, INVERNO founded BLVSH collective, whose mission is to grow the exposure, peer support and promotion of FLINTA* talents. Awarded in 2022 by the Tag der Clubkultur price, by Club Commission.
Mentioned in the “Newcomers list for 2023” of Groove Mag Germany, INVERNO
regularly plays in Renate, Zur Klappe, TRESOR, Fuchs2 (CZ), LeftBank Tbilisi (GE) and OXI club just to name a few.

Os primeiros registros de neve em 2025 ocorreram nesta quinta-feira (29) em diversos municípios da Serra catarinense, marcando simbolicamente a chegada antecipada do clima de inverno no Estado. Os flocos de neve foram observados em Bom Jardim da Serra, São Joaquim, Urubici e Urupema, acompanhados de temperaturas negativas ou próximas de 0°C, além de sensação térmica ainda mais baixa.

O fenômeno encantou moradores e turistas, movimentando redes sociais e aquecendo o turismo regional antes mesmo do início oficial do inverno, que começa em junho. O setor hoteleiro já registra alta taxa de ocupação, e empreendedores locais se preparam para uma temporada promissora.

Em entrevista ao programa Cruz de Malta Notícias nesta sexta-feira (30), a presidente da Associação Bonjardinense de Turismo (ABT), Rute Martendal Machado, falou sobre o impacto positivo do frio no setor. “A neve é sempre um atrativo especial, que traz um brilho diferente para a Serra. Estamos preparados para receber visitantes com infraestrutura, boa gastronomia e hospitalidade. A expectativa é de uma temporada bastante aquecida para o turismo”, destacou.

Além da beleza natural, o inverno catarinense oferece um mix de experiências que vão desde o aconchego das lareiras e vinhos até os pratos típicos da culinária regional. A combinação entre paisagens geladas, cultura e hospitalidade transforma os Campos de Cima da Serra e outras regiões de altitude em destinos consolidados nesta época do ano.

O turismo de inverno tem se tornado uma estratégia econômica importante para os municípios serranos, promovendo desenvolvimento local e valorização da identidade cultural. Com os primeiros flocos já caindo, a Serra se prepara para uma temporada que promete atrair milhares de turistas em busca de experiências autênticas e memoráveis no frio catarinense.
