En 1982, dans une Irlande secouée par les attentats, le chômage et les grèves de la faim, Malcolm Macarthur se retrouve dans une impasse financière. Ce dandy intellectuel est pris de panique à l’idée de devoir travailler pour gagner sa vie. Il échafaude alors un plan improbable : braquer une banque. Pour se procurer voiture et arme, il assassine sauvagement une infirmière et un jeune fermier... L'auteur et journaliste Mark O'Connell a longtemps été hanté par l’histoire de ce double meurtre. L’auteur se retrouve ainsi confronté à son propre récit : que signifie écrire sur un meurtrier ?  ("Sur le fil de la violence", paru en septembre 2025 aux éditions Stock)

This intellectual dandy panicked at the thought of having to work for a living. So he hatched an unlikely plan: to rob a bank. To obtain a car and a weapon, he brutally murdered a nurse and a young farmer... The author and journalist Mark O'Connell was haunted for a long time by this story of double murder.
