Je suis musicien français, tubiste et compositeur spécialisé dans un domaine rare et profondément enraciné dans la tradition française : les orchestres de cuivres naturels. Ces ensembles, à l’histoire riche et singulière, reposent sur des instruments dits "d'ordonnance", dépourvus de système permettant le chromatisme, auxquels s’ajoutent des instruments chromatiques et des percussions pour enrichir leur palette sonore.
Qu’est-ce qu’un orchestre de cuivres naturels ?

Un orchestre de cuivres naturels se distingue par la combinaison unique d’instruments naturels et chromatiques. Voici son instrumentarium :

Les cuivres naturels :

    Clairon : Instrument en si bémol, connu pour son timbre clair et direct.
    Clairon basse : Frère grave du clairon, également en si bémol, jouant une octave plus bas.
    Trompette de cavalerie : En mi bémol, avec un son éclatant et vibrant.
    Trompette basse : Frère grave de la trompette de cavalerie, en mi bémol, une octave plus bas.
    Cor naturel : Instrument en mi bémol, partageant la même octave que la trompette basse, offrant des sonorités rondes et chaleureuses.

Les instruments chromatiques :

Pour compléter les cuivres naturels et harmoniser l’ensemble :

    Euphonium : Avec ses lignes mélodiques fluides et expressives.
    Tuba : Fondation grave et puissante de l’orchestre.
    Claviers de percussion : Glockenspiel, vibraphone, xylophone et marimba, ajoutant une dimension mélodique et percussive.

Les percussions :
Tous les instruments de percussion trouvent leur place dans cet ensemble : tambours, timbales, cymbales, tambourin, woodblock, et bien d’autres.

En tant que tubiste et compositeur, je puise dans cette palette sonore unique pour créer des œuvres qui allient tradition et modernité. Mes compositions mettent en valeur l’histoire et les spécificités des cuivres naturels tout en explorant de nouvelles perspectives sonores.

Originaire de Villers-Cotterêts

Je vis à Villers-Cotterêts, patrie d’Alexandre Dumas, célèbre auteur des Trois Mousquetaires. La ville accueille désormais la Cité Internationale de la Langue Française, installée dans le somptueux château renaissance de François 1er. Ce lieu emblématique célèbre la richesse et la diversité de la langue française tout en valorisant notre patrimoine culturel.

About Me

I am a French musician, tuba player, and composer specializing in a rare and deeply rooted tradition of French music: natural brass orchestras. These ensembles, with their rich and unique history, rely on so-called "ordonnance" instruments, which lack a chromatic system, complemented by chromatic instruments and percussion to expand their sonic palette.

What is a natural brass orchestra?

A natural brass orchestra is characterized by its unique combination of natural and chromatic instruments. Here is an overview of its instrumentarium:

Natural brass instruments:

    Bugle (Clairon): A B-flat instrument known for its bright and direct timbre.
    Bass Bugle (Clairon Basse): The deeper counterpart of the bugle, also in B-flat, sounding one octave lower.
    Cavalry Trumpet (Trompette de Cavalerie): An E-flat instrument with a brilliant and vibrant tone.
    Bass Trumpet (Trompette Basse): The lower-pitched counterpart of the cavalry trumpet, also in E-flat, sounding one octave lower.
    Natural Horn (Cor Naturel): An E-flat instrument sharing the same octave as the bass trumpet, offering warm and rounded tones.

Chromatic instruments:

To complement the natural brass instruments and enrich the harmony:

    Euphonium: Known for its smooth and expressive melodic lines.
    Tuba: Providing the deep and powerful foundation of the orchestra.
    Percussion keyboards: Glockenspiel, vibraphone, xylophone, and marimba, adding melodic and percussive textures.

Percussion:

The orchestra includes all types of percussion instruments: drums, timpani, cymbals, tambourines, woodblocks, and more.

My Musical Universe

As a tuba player and composer, I draw from this unique sonic palette to create works that combine tradition and modernity. My compositions highlight the history and specificities of natural brass instruments while exploring new sonic horizons.

I live in Villers-Cotterêts, the birthplace of Alexandre Dumas, the famous author of The Three Musketeers. The town is now home to the International Center for the French Language, located in the stunning Renaissance château built under Francis I. This iconic site celebrates the richness and diversity of the French language while showcasing our cultural heritage.
