When a film is titled Ishk Actually you obviously enter the cinema hall with some promise of romance and lively courtship between the boy and girl. In short you are looking forward to be entertained but the only promise this film starts out with is to ensure boredom and it does not disappoint you on that count.

The film begins with Neil (Rajeev Khandelwal), standing at the edge of a cliff, mouthing some high funda romantic philosophy which actually amounts to nothing. Cut to Jia (Neha Ahuja) walking past in her office with a morose expression greeting anybody who bothers to wish her on her birthday. It's time for a series of dragging, long flashbacks which take you from Mumbai to Bangkok to Goa to Ooty. Even the armchair tourist in you it fails to satisfy. Somewhere along the way you figure out Neha is not sure about whom she actually loves. Is it the man with whom she has a one night stand or is it the man (Kabir played by Rayo Bakhirta) whom she is about to get engaged to?

You have to ensure this nearly 120-minute drab sojourn to figure out whom Neha actually loves. The screenplay writer and the director ensure that they take you through the film in the most trite fashion. Sitting through the film is so laborious that you don't really care whom she ends up with eventually. There are too many brooding scenes and the three principal characters talk as if their brief was to mouth dialogues like in an esoteric art film.

After his brilliant film debut five years ago in Aamir, Rajeev Khandelwal is an actor who perks your interest when you see his name in the film's credit. After watching this film you wonder did he actually agree to do this film happily? What for and why? Harsh as it may sound but this film could easily be called Boredom Actually.

Savika "Pinky" Chaiyadej, a top actress in Thai cinema, has already acted in two regional Tamil and Telugu films in India and is now signed up for two other Hindi movies. Jariya Somboon, a Likay artist who goes by the stage name Ann Mitchai, figured in the Hindi romance Ishk Actually and is preparing to release her first Thai-Indian fusion music album Superstar.


"Most Thai movie stars want to act in Bollywood and Pinky's dream is also to act in Hindi cinema. She is signed with me for two more movies and we are both waiting to begin shooting," says Sudhir Pudhota, who produced the Telugu-language Emo Gurram Egaraa Vachchu (Who Knows the Horse May Fly) in which Savika played the lead opposite a South Indian actor. Pudhota, a friend of Savika, is known to acquaintances in Bangkok as "John".


In both the Telugu and the Tamil movies Savika was given her dialogue in English, the way it is done for many other North Indian actresses who cannot speak South Indian languages. Siddhartha said he would love to cast Savika again.


Director Anish Khanna mercifully sticks to the plot till a considerable portion of the first half while goes guerilla with jump cuts in the second half. The intercut between the past and the present are with such jerks that you lose track of that the filmmaker is actually trying to do. The movie after a point starts appearing disjointed, tedious and boring.
