Session 25.9.2026, Teil 4

My debut jam for The Hardware Jams Show on Monday. As it will be one of the hosts birthdays (Johnathon R Cross) it's nice for me to be able to do this challenge in what's pretty much my usual style anyway. They gave a lot of options this week, but i went for the all in one take (the first take) which just so happens to be something that he likes. So all good this week at least! But i did get carried away and forgot they have a strict ''5 minutes or less'' policy. So i had to chop this down. And once i started chopping the video i got carried away and did some stutter effects, and then i saturated the colour as well.

Apart from the saturation (which i did in K-Den), and the original recording of the video (with OBS), all of the video chopping was done in Ableton. I realised me waving a can of Special Brew in front of the camera might count as ''Product Placement'', so i did my best to mess around with that as well before i get cancelled somewhere. But the audio is still 100% live in one single take, just with a chunk removed for times sake. The only tweaking done in post was slapping an Ozone mastering preset on the main out to boost the volume, and i EQ-ed out a sharp note just for one bar for so nobody listening on headphones gets any permanent hearing damage!

“Every Day a Memory” is a Louisiana acoustic hard-rock song about recognizing the present while it is already becoming part of the past. Its narrator leads someone down an overgrown dead-end street, through a ditch and across a cattle field to a hidden pond, where they sit beneath a sprawling live oak and remember the good times alongside the bad.

Red Tail Hawk is a soulful groove-rock band from Newburyport, Massachusetts, formed in 2011. Led by Ben Zanfagna on vocals, guitar and tenor/soprano saxophone, the band blends roots-rock grit, vintage funk groove, R&B-inspired hooks, raw vocals and sax-driven melodies. The lineup includes Mike Gruen on bass, Eric Turner on lead guitar, Reed Dieffenbach on drums and Pete Whitehead on drums and vocals.

The catalog runs from the self-titled 2011 EP through the albums Night Soup (2016) and Strokes (2020), the EPs Magnetic Malaise, King Kong and Make Your Own Medicine, and singles including Tend Your Fire, Rub-a-Dub and The Battle Cry of Freedom. Red Tail Hawk has opened for national acts including G. Love, The Brew and Chris Duarte, and continues to perform across New England.

Michael B Kowal is a Louisiana songwriter whose music starts simply, usually with a quiet moment and a guitar. His sound carries his Louisiana roots alongside blues, folk, country, reggae, and the Caribbean influence that has found its way into his writing over the years.

The songs tend to come from whatever is happening around him: memories, family, ordinary days, heavier moments, or sometimes just an idea that feels good to play. The goal isn't to fit neatly into one genre. It's to follow the song wherever it wants to go.

Lately, Michael has been exploring new production technology as another part of that process, learning how to take the raw songs he writes and performs and build them into fuller recordings without losing what made him want to play them in the first place.

Sometimes they're rough. Sometimes they're heavily produced. Sometimes they're somewhere in between.

But they usually begin the same way: a little quiet, a guitar, and something worth following.

Welcome. This is where I keep everything. Original recordings, raw versions, experiments, alternate takes, and songs that may never make it anywhere else. Only certain tracks eventually get polished up and officially released. SoundCloud is where you can hear the whole process, rough edges and all.

Klangklinik from Basel, Switzerland, is devoted to improvised jam sessions, exploring experimental sound worlds combined with readings and multi media performances. In the beginning, in 2007, Klangklinik was a loose collective, by now they consist of 7 musicians, surrounded by a variable circle of guest musicians, who get invited for private and public jam sessions. The visual artist EddiE haRA has contributed live painting as a part of Klangklinik in public performances. Klangklinik uses classic rock instruments but the sound remains experimental and is strictly improvised with a repetitive character. Sometimes psychedelic, sometimes noisy soundscapes and accidental songs are being woven out of the moment.
