BudaMunkの音源への参加を皮切りに、Double Double (OYG & GAPPER)のAlbumへの客演等で頭角を表してきたEPIC。BudaMunk完全プロデュースにより実兄のShinobiと3人でリリースしたアルバム「Gates to the east」も記憶に新しい。
今回、EPICは日本で出会った仲間達と作り上げた1st Albumをリリース。タイトルは『JAZZY VIEWS』。EPICの叙情的且つ、ポジティブ、それでいて力強さと滑らかさを合わせ持ったFlow。それを受け止めるBeatを提供しているのは、Clickqnot, Illsugi, BudaMunk,Yotaro, tajima hal, Fitz Ambrose, 1Co.INRと言ったシーンの最前線にいるビートメーカー達。

日本の地で作り上げてきたEPICの感性、視点、情熱が今放たれる。本作のマスタリングはMitsu the Beatsが、アートワークはdie (Jazzy Sport)が担当。先行MVとして「HIP HOP」が公開中。Cassette Tapeは限定100本のみの流通となる。

For our Octoberr(十月) Tsubaki FM show we invite a London based selector and record collector, resident and head sound engineer of Brilliant Corners and Giant Steps, Juan Blanco.

Juan is heavily inspired by the philosophy of Mancuso and his sound is constantly evolving as he continues to explore ways to push boundaries into what can be played on a dark effervescent dancer floor.

A beautiful 2 hour music journey that will take you all over the world, each tune having a deep deep story to tell. Recommend listening it through in a comfortable position and preferably in your best audio set up!

A Jazz session with the Pocket apprentice 

The pocket apprentice, aka Harry Shi, is a multidisciplinary scholar and artist from Beijing, China. Currently, he lives in London, attending the BA programme of Social Anthropology and International Relations at SOAS, working part-time as a photographer, stylist, and digital market analyst. Back home in Beijing, he is also an active event organiser, DJ, dancer, and archivist of house music and jazz music. 

The name Pocket Apprentice is his tribute to all the great musicians, dancers, and DJs for being in the pocket and inspiring dancers to move within it. In humbleness to these greats and the club culture, Harry felt that learning how to feel and be in the pocket would be an endless process, hence the name of the Pocket apprentice.

For this two-hour vinyl set, the pocket apprentice featured his most recent inspirations, legends from the bebop and hard bop era with some Latin twists. The agenda of this set is to showcase how the feel of “swing” has been redefined by polyrhythmic musicians (drummers in particular).
Starting with Don Menza, Thelonious Monk, then Sonny Rollins playing Dizzy Gillespie’s iconic composition “A Night in Tunisia”. Followed by the Cuban Percussionist Mongo Santamaria, who masterfully made the transition between 3/4 to 4/4 times. After a short break with the sweet sounds of the Lee Morgan Quartet, “Philly” Joe Jones and Charlie “Persip” would introduce you to Elvin Jones’ “Heavy Hit!” an underrated Japanese recording with the Jazz Machine. Coming in with more polyrhythms, this time on the piano, Señor Blues is a 12/8 from the Horace Silver Quintet, channelling their inner Duke Ellington with this dark, exotic Latin arrangement. Also, on the piano, Dave Brubeck Quartets playing Paul Desmond’s composition “Take Five” would prepare you for a rather dubious track of Elvin Jones. Moving on to Gerry Mulligan, one of the greatest jazz orchestrators, would give you a taste of cool jazz. Then entering the funky town, with Horace Silver’s interpretation of Eddie Jefferson’s “Psychedelic Sally” and “Hohai-Bushi” by Kiyoshi Yamaya & Kifu Mitsuhashi (Shakuhachi). Last but not least Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers would close wind you down before Duke Ellington accompanies the final three numbers with Jonny Hodges.

Valentine, with an infectious worldwide rhythms takes you to faraway land through her mix. She has been deeply involved with the London music scene as a selector/DJ, as well as previously working at Brilliant corners and the brownswood, Gilles Peterson’s record label at the moment.She is also the host of ‘low key and local’ on Netil Radio and ‘Valentine invites…’ on Voices Radio where she invites DJs & musicians to perform live and talk about their projects and events, with a focus on building or reinforcing communities.

For our June (六月) Tsubaki FM show we invite Cameron Cullen, a Scottish producer also known as DJ Posture, is a key member of London's Klipsch crew Giant Steps. He is a creator of unconventional house and techno music, shaped from house parties and illegal raves which he was exposed to since growing up in Scotland's central belt in the 1990s. 

His mixes continue the tradition of genre-bending DJs like Theo Parrish and Spencer Kincy, utilising a variety of musical genres while maintaining a high degree of sophistication in the track selection process, with a particular fondness for dance music from the 1990s.

Enjoy Cameron’s 2h mix of spiritual/free jazz blending into electronic music!
