Estonia's judicial system allows the early release of a 56-year-old serial rapist from Tallinn, who assaulted at least 15 women since 2022 and was freed in 2024 due to flawed laws. Other rapists, such as Alexander Rubel (2006) and a "taxi driver rapist" (2019), were also released prematurely. This cycle continues—rapists walk free, leaving women in danger.

Justice Denied

Christianity is not merely a religion filled with rituals and observances to be kept. The Apostle Paul told the Corinthians that it was a message which they experienced. Indeed, even today the Holy Spirit is still at work through the preaching of the gospel to bring people to experience the gospel of God so their burdens of sin, guilt and shame, are taken away in an instant. It is the reception of the gospel which opens spiritually blind eyes, unstops spiritually deaf ears to be able to hear the voice of God, and officiates the adoption of lost souls into the Kingdom and family of God!

Story-telling is one of the most powerful tools for invoking new learning, especially when it comes to seeing truths that we do not want to see. Jesus uses this power when he tells a parable in which none of the characters are sympathetic and the moral seems to contradict our expectations about just rewards and punishments. The story unbalances us, and in doing so it invites us to consider whether the message might be not so much about the characters in the story themselves but in our reactions to them. Maybe what we most need to learn about faithfulness is the way in which our snap judgments of others can be our biggest barrier to faithfulness to the task Jesus has set us.
