Thaisoul Sessions Episode 53

On Wednesday October 18th, 2017 Jask (@jask-thaisoul) and I were getting ready to attend the last show Depeche Mode was performing at the Hollywood Bowl on their 4 night sold out concerts at this iconic venue.

We are both big fans of this legendary band and we both have lots of edits and bootlegs of their classic tracks so we decide to pre-game before the show not by doing tequila shots but instead by recording and impromptu B2B set of some of our favorite tracks from DM. Hence the name of the mix.

If you attended the show in Los Angeles on Wednesday you will recognize some of the sound bites that I recorded on my phone :)

We hope you enjoy this set as much as we did recording it. If you know any DM fans please share with them as they will get a new take on some of these classic songs.

Born and raised in the suburbs of London, Billy's musical influence came from  predominantly family and friends (heavily 80's-90's based). Ranging from various artists such as Michael Jackson to the works of 90's house producers Stonebridge, MK and Pete Heller. Variation is the key to Billy's skill and expertise; always adaptable to play a commercial set or underground (his production work massively reflects that). Currently he is open to a broad personal taste in music from Maceo Plex to Ice Cube, Fall Out Boy and as a guilty pleasure Nik Kershaw. Billy is currently working on learning production after starting a late dj career from first touching a deck at the age of 22!



The music of West Coast DJ, Ricardo Torres can best be described as a blend of deep, soulful house, and disco inflected with the particular sound of the west coast vibe, sultry and smooth. He plays the music that  heads love to dance to; confident that when the music flows from hands that loves the underground it can be an uplifting, groovy and sexy experience.

Ricardo has been on a quest to achieve that perfect mix ever since his first chance encounter at the turntables, in 1987 at his college radio station in Montreal, Canada. His first 12" records were from the Industrial Electronic Music of that time.  Shortly thereafter in 1988, he was first introduced to House Music. Ricardo quickly changed his direction and followed the early days of Chicago House.  He moved towards this style of music since he found it to have a new and unfamiliar energy within itself.

In 1995 Ricardo, moved to Los Angeles, a city basking in sunrays and radiating the good vibes he himself perpetuated. And here, Ricardo discovered the funky, soulfulness of the west coast sound.  Many of his early heroes such as Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, and others gave him the desire to gravitate towards this deeper, more soulful West Coast style.

While still a local Los Angeles DJ, Ricardo - inspired by his love for this genre-decided early on in the year 2000 to post his mixes online to share with the world. This was fairly new and innovative at the time. This act of sharing his musical vision without prejudice or limitations caused him to be sought after to play his brand of house music in cities all over the world. He continues to offer up his masterful mixes, as host of syndicated radio shows online as well as on satellite radio in the USA.

Within the recent past Ricardo joined forces with Nu Disco Your Disco out of Germany for representation and affiliation. This modern Nu Disco sound, to him, is the perfect way to bring that West COast vibe into the future and the new generation. Since NDYD has been a pioneer in bringing the Nu Disco genre to the masses in Europe he felt that they would be the perfect partner for doing the same in North America with their established brand. Hence, the syndicated NDYD Radio Show was born.  The show has been on the air for over a year now and besides Ricardo hosting and DJing it every week, some of the best talent in the industry and from all over the planet have been guest DJs and taken over the show. The loyal following keeps growing episode after episode. 

Underground music trends and styles have changed since Ricardo played his first vinyl record all those years ago but what hasn't changed is that he just loves playing music that inspires the heads to get up and dance!


DJ Adoss est un jeune DJ marocain né à Casablanca en 1992. Jeune, il écoutait du RnB et tout « hit » passant à la radio.
Il commence à mixer et à publier ses podcasts en 2008. Il fit la rencontre d’un passionné de musique qui lui permit de faire évoluer sa vision et sa passion pour la musique. Ce dernier l’oriente vers un style différent de musique électronique : la Soulful/Deep House. DJ Adoss reste bluffé par les sonorités et décide de faire un travail de recherche pour rattraper le temps perdu pour finalement trouver refuge dans ce style.

Il adopte ce sous-genre de la musique House pour ses podcasts, et ce loin du classement Billboard ou des Hits qui passent à la radio. On y découvre donc des sonorités peu écoutées et assez posées. Il développe ses techniques de mix grâce aux conseils de son ami DJ Salah (Gaga Records’ Owner – Oscar P, Emil Persson, Inusa Dawuda, Isaac, Terri B …).

La technique est là, son style est maintenant au point et il a de bons retours sur ses podcasts. Sa passion s’est développée et la partager ne peut que lui faire plaisir. Ecouter et découvrir de nouveaux morceaux est maintenant son passe-temps favori.

Il fit ensuite la connaissance de DJ Youngblood (Ina Fallen). Une alchimie se crée tout de suite entre ces passionnés et le partage des nouveautés devint donc un rituel entre ces 2 amis … Et aucun titre n’y passe !

Son inspiration est venue de DJ tel que : DJ Yass, Erick Morillo, Chocolate Puma, Quentin Harris, Louie Vega, Soul Central, Dennis Ferrer, Copyright, Atjazz, Osunlade, Reel People, Aaron Ross, Liquid People, Kenny Dope, ATFC, The Shapeshifters, The Muthafunkaz, Hardsoul, Mr V, Atjazz, TJ Cases, Low Deep T, Black Coffee, Culoe De Song, The Layabouts, Sergio Flores, Roland Clark, Ralf GUM …

Les conseils de ses amis et leur soutien lui ont permit de beaucoup apprendre. On peut citer : DJ Salah, Tristan Heymans, Thomas Toccafondi, MisterAlf, DJ Youngblood …

Il travaille actuellement sur ses premières productions.

Retro Roland Riso, has over 25 years of club experience behind the decks, with a true passion for all things funky, filled with soul and truly groovy.

As a toddler, he'd spend countless hours enjoying his parents' eclectic record cabinet; listening to artists such as The Beatles, Sergio Mendes, Sly & The Family Stone, The Turtles, Taj Mahal, even The Osmonds and Bay City Rollers.  Little did his folks realize, Roland snagged a few of those gems over the years to add to his impressive collection.  

While fully immersed in listening to music, he began learning piano at 6 years old, which inevitably launched his love to create and produce.

Once considered the "Hardest Working DJ in Philly", Retro Roland was spinning 5-6 residencies on a weekly basis, including a highly regarded internet radio show, "Sounds of The True School".  During his 4 year run, Mr. Riso's guests included Ursula Rucker, The Last Emperor, Rich Medina and Mpozi Tolbert.

He also ran a successful monthly Jazz and Soul Record Show, which was widely popular amongst record collectors, DJ's and producers, including Cash Money, Jazzy Jeff and Quest Love.

Riso also helped engineer Cozmic Cat's legendary Philadelphia party, "Groove Lounge", which brought musicians, vocalists and DJ's a platform to perform in united, rhythmic harmony, which featured a then unknown, Jill Scott.

As an URB Magazine mixtape runner-up, The Soul Provider has shared the bill with incredible performers, including Afrika Bambaataa, Felix Da Housecat, Dubtribe, King Britt, DJ Craze, Vikter Duplaix, house pioneer Robert Owens and the legendary Barbara Tucker.  He recently opened up for Grammy nominated artist, Flo-Rida.

A number of Retro's remixes are in regular rotation on The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show, featured on BBC Radio 6, with funk 45 releases on Matasuna Records.  Plus, Roland hosts a weekly music broadcast, The FunkBro Show, on RadioActiveFM.

Notorious for working the crowd and rocking the dance floor, Riso maximizes every opportunity to drop a funky "Retro Roland Riso" remix, morphing the room into a sweaty, swanky frenzy!

Pete began his DJ career in 1984 before house music had hit the shores of Australia, after the arrival of house music Pete become a resident DJ at many of Wollongong and Sydney's dance clubs and entertained crowds for the next 20 years.
Pete has retired from clubs but continues to mix for digital radio stations across the globe.

Destounis P. was born in Kefalonia, Greece back in 1996. From young age he shown his love for music and at the age of 16 he made his first steps as DJ.
He represents a wide variety of sounds across the range of electronic melody types along with African culture.
Nowadays he is working as a resident DJ in area of Greece.
