What happens when God is more eager to save the lost than His church is to reach them? In Acts 10, we encounter one of the most pivotal moments in human history—the official opening of the gospel to the Gentile world. Without this door being blown wide open, none of us would be sitting in church today. Yet remarkably, Cornelius the centurion was far more ready to receive God's word than Peter was to deliver it.

This passage from Acts 10 reveals a God who orchestrates divine appointments with supernatural precision. An angel appears to a devout Roman centurion. A vision shakes a reluctant apostle. The Holy Spirit falls without human intervention. All of this unfolds to drive home a revolutionary truth: Jesus Christ is Lord of all—not just of those who believe in Him, but of every person who has ever lived.

Peter needed repeated visions and direct commands from the Spirit before he would cross the cultural barrier to enter a Gentile home. Meanwhile, Cornelius had already gathered his entire household and close friends, waiting expectantly to hear whatever message God would send. This striking contrast challenges our assumptions about who is ready to hear the gospel. Are we more reluctant to share than our neighbors are to receive?

The sermon explores how God systematically removed the barriers between Jews and Gentiles—first through dietary laws that made Israel distinct, then through the death and resurrection of Christ that made all people accessible to God's grace. Peter's "No, Lord" response to God's vision reveals how difficult it can be to release our traditions and prejudices, even when God Himself is commanding change.
But here's what makes Acts 10 so crucial for today: the message didn't change. Peter preached the same gospel to Cornelius that he preached on Pentecost. Christ suffered for our sins. He rose from the dead. He is the glorified Lord. Forgiveness comes through faith in Him alone. The same gospel saves everyone, regardless of background, culture, or past.

The challenge for modern believers is clear: Will we be as eager to proclaim this message as the world is to hear it? Are we ready to cross the borders and barriers in our own lives—whether cultural, social, or personal—to bring the good news that Jesus is Lord of all?
