Following Jesus into a new life is awesome. We know that Jesus died and rose again. So we, too, need to die with Jesus and rise to newness of life. We need to cut ties with our own life. This is what baptism is about.

We go under the water, burying the "old man" that we used to be. The old us has died with Jesus Christ, and now he gets to have his burial ceremony. Then we rise up from the water, just like Jesus rose to new life. This is part of what Jesus referred to when he said we must be "born again" "of water and spirit."

We'll learn about the Holy Spirit more shortly, but for right now, what a blessing it is to leave behind our old life, our old addictions, our old sins, to walk in a brand new life! Praise God!

A Bath & A Burial

In John 3, Jesus claims to be like the bronze snake Moses put up on a pole for the people of Israel to look at and be healed, but how is this possible? What's the connection? Jesus goes on to explain by connecting the realities of judgment and grace together in himself - just like the serpent was simultaneously a sign of their judgment (the snake attacks had been the result of Israel's rebellion), trusting God's grace and looking at it was also their path to salvation.

At PBC our longing is that people encounter the Lord Himself. 
We regularly pray that someone who joins us will be drawn to some inescapable conclusions:

“God is really among you!”

“Look how you love one another!”

And that after ministry their sense would be that “God did that!” This leaves us dependent upon God because ultimately it is about whether He does this or not.

We are passionate about the “finished product”, which ironically is something that will never be finished in this life. That “product” is not a big congregation or a new building or great services or a profile in the community. The “product” is ultimately personal and concerns who and what we are becoming. We believe that we are on this earth to discover, live out and pass on what it means to be whole-hearted followers of Jesus.
