On the 5th of May 2023, Loughborough Campus Radio held their first ever 24-hour live show in honour of the King’s Coronation. The show started at 10pm on the Friday 5th May and ended at 10pm on the Saturday 6th May. This show was one of the most special moments experienced amongst our LCR community and wouldn’t have been possible without coproducers and co-hosts Ryan Wicks and Sahiba Singh who both stayed for the entirety of the 24-hours. They pushed the station to reach new technical advancements, connecting the live feed to our in-house DJ on the Friday night, and having live coverage of the King’s Coronation all the way from London on the Saturday. As this was the first time we had a set up like this, we had Ryan running around trying to fix any technical issues whilst still staying on air. The station showcased their new branding which added to the sound quality and professionalism of the station. Within the first hour of the show the fire alarm went off forcing them to evacuate whilst on air, but they stayed cool calm and professional not letting it ruin their momentum.

Throughout the show there were captivating discussions of the King’s Coronation and interviews held with a handful of different international students, which involved a diverse range of communities to gain their perspectives of the coronation, even finding out what they would do if they were King, which was great fun to tune in to. Furthermore, the show comprised of many different games that had the audience engaged. The co-hosts put each other to the test with quick fire trivia on the Royal Family, and had a segment full of riddles whereby the audience had to send in their guesses! The show maintained a consistent enthusiasm and high energy from the hosts and guests throughout the 24-hours. Reaching the 24-hour threshold marked a magical moment for our LCR community. It took on new challenges and reinstated the capability of the station. This has encouraged others to take on similar projects, with another 24-hour show in the works!
