The founders of Awaceb Studio, Phil Crifo and Thierry Boura, used their home of New Caledonia in the Pacific as inspiration for their new game Tchia. The island archipelago and diverse cultures gave soundtrack composer John Robert Matz plenty of ideas for his music. John Robert even incorporated dried fern leaves that are traditionally used by the islanders for dances.

Maclaine Diemer says playing Myst as a kid was a life-changing experience, and he was thrilled to have the chance to add to Cyan Worlds' legacy by composing music for their newest game, Firmament. Maclaine wanted the music to fit into the aural world of Cyan's other games, and he even tracked down the same synthesizer that Robyn Miller used for the original Myst soundtrack, in addition to creating his own sounds for Firmament's unique environments and story.

Years after he was blown away by the first-run release of Alien in a theater, Doyle Donehoo finally got his chance to compose a soundtrack for a story from the Alien universe. His soundtrack for Aliens: Dark Descent is inspired by the original soundtracks by Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, while interpreting the music in a new way. But, as Doyle says, "it still sounds like it's part of the Alien franchise."

Not much scares composer Tom Salta, which is a good thing as he was creating the soundtrack for Outlast Trials, a terrifying game set during the 1950's in a fiendish laboratory. Tom was brought in early to help create the palette for the music, so he had plenty of time to hunt around for things that make creepy sounds, including some 100-year-old Edison dolls with recorded ghostly voices and mechanical toys.

Outlast Trials has recently been released for consoles, which means anyone who's brave enough can venture into this horrifying world. You can even bring a friend because there's a multiplayer option!
