The first half of the show, KGUA public radio show host Leigh Anne Lindsey speaks with returning Program Director of the Mendocino Film Festival, Claudia Puig, about the events, parties, and films at this year's ongoing festival in the oceanside town of Mendocino in Mendocino County. Wine, waves, and wonder! 

In the second half, we aired episode #106 from Blue Frontier's Rising Tide podcast which is an interview with the Exec. Dir. of the International Ocean Film Festival, Anna Blanco, who has a film in progress with Blue Frontier's Exec. Dir. Natasha Benjamin called "Sequoias of the Sea" that raises awareness about the devastation of bull kelp along the Northern California coast of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, and what people and organizations are doing to help bring those forests back. 

Also in this podcast is Sarah Norenberg, the director of ‘Orca – Black & White Gold,’ one of the exciting documentaries that played at the recent 21st Int'l Ocean Film Fest in San Francisco about how Russian activists saved 100 whales slated to be sold to Chinese aquarium parks, and instead got them released back into the wild. A true life ‘Free Willy’ film plus some good talk about ocean documentaries. (Sarah was production manager on Sea of Shadows by Richard Ladkani whom we interviewed on KGUA when that film was shown in the Mendocino Film Festival years ago. He's currently been traveling & filming with Jane Goodall.)

Kelp Festival is running May 18 for 5 weeks, and will tie into the 17th annual Mendocino Film Festival May 30-June 2 (in Mendocino and Fort Bragg, California.) Purple urchin farming is one way to address the devastation of the bull kelp forests along the Northern California coast. Noyo Center is advancing ocean conservation through education, exploration, and experience.
